WORST BOOK EVER!,
By Firestar "firestarblue" (Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride and Prejudice Continues (Paperback)
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a book in possession of a good title, must be in want of a reader. This book is even too smutty to be called a "romance novel"! It is NOT written in the style of Jane Austen (did she use the word "betwixt" in every other sentence - NO!) and it doesn't even stay true to the characters. Abductions, vivid accounts of rape and physical abuse, bastard children, Mr. Darcy visiting brothels (!), Mr Darcy killing people in sleezy bars - infact: just imagine anything that would not be in a Jane Austen novel and here it is, packaged under the title(s) "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife" and sneakily "The Bar Sinister". "Excessively Diverted" was a much better sequel. As a huge Jane Austen fan I was super disappointed in this one however. Someone pleeeeease write a good sequel!

It's about the characters not Jane Austen,
By Maria "Maria" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride and Prejudice Continues (Paperback)
As someone who has loved the characters of Elizabeth and Darcy for more than 30 years, this book was not about completing Jane Austens' thoughts as much as it was about giving the couple's fans the passionate, romantic happy ending we wanted so much for them. I adore Jane Austen, but I also admit that all of her books left me wanted more satisfaction in the culmination of the romance. Her books pretty much wrapped up once the characters discovered and acknowledged their love, so we never really got to imagine them without beyond the angst and unrequited love stage.Do I think the book was soft porn, wrapped up in a Harlequin romance novel? Yes. Was the writing style heavy handed, convoluted and employing excessive nonsensical words or euphemism? Most definitely. But I also know that I couldn't put it down from the moment I started reading it until I was done, and then I went back and reread my favorite parts. And I felt happy at the end, happy that two old, dear and treasured friends - even if they only exist in my mind - like Elizabeth and Darcy were doing okay and as much in love as I wanted them to be. Yes it is silly to imagine two characters that way, but that is what was best about Jane Austen - she created characters who came to life for the reader. And what this book does is the one thing Jane couldn-t - it gave us a memory of their passionate love. It wasn't their sex life that compelled me to keep reading, but the tenderness and emotion of Darcy, who would do anythingfor Elizabeth and was singularly vulnerable to her, while still composed and stately to the world. I 'wanted' that for the Elizabeth I imagined in my mind, and I felt vastly rewarded that she got the love she deserved.

No Magic,
By Liza Dearest "Liza" (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride and Prejudice Continues (Paperback)
This book completely loses touch with Jane Austen's magic. The characters are annoying and sex driven with nothing of wit or intelligence. No satire here. No class at all. The book demolishes what Miss Austen created. No not read this book.
