Steal a mummy from the museum? Cool, collected Emlyn loves the idea. The mummy, Princess Amaral-Re, is the main attraction in the small city museum, and Emlyn has been fascinated by her since she was a child. Besides, she has always wanted to do something secret... and bad. So she coolly agrees to mastermind the theft when Lovell, Maris, Jack, and Donovan approach her with their plan. But the second part--hanging the mummy in the high-school bell tower for Mischief Night--Emlyn isn't so sure about that.

Emlyn begins to figure out how to stay in the museum past closing, how to fool the guards, how to outwit the hidden cameras, and what to do with the mummy after she carries it out the door onto the busy sidewalk. But on the night of the theft, in spite of her meticulous planning, step after step goes awry. Emlyn must use all her wits to pull off the heist. Then, in an ironic twist, she finds that the real enemies, the people she must really outwit to save Amaral-Re, are her accomplices.

Caroline Cooney's many well-crafted thrillers, beginning with The Face on the Milk Carton, continue to delight readers, and Mummy is an especially heart-thumping adventure for her fans. (Ages 10 to 14) --Patty Campbell

Caroline B. Cooney's Mummy is a story about a sly girl who can get away with any security when it comes to stealing. One fateful night, Emlyn went into the museum to steal a beautiful Egyptian mummy. On that fateful night, everything becomes a failure. Caroline B. Cooney's Mummy is a vivid book, filled with excitement and adventure, it keeps you reading the book until you turn to the last page of Mummy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, not Cooney's Best, July 8 2002
Ce commentaire est de: Mummy (Mass Market Paperback)
First of all, I'd like to say, the plot is pretty lame. This book is a little suspenceful at times but it lacks alot. I am not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it wasn't that interesting in my opinion.

Emlyn is a straight A student that is yearning to do something bad...( which makes me wonder.) When her teacher plans a trip to a museum, the class makes a plan to steal a mummy from the museum. Emlyn is up to it, and wants to prove to herself that she can do it. But will she? Will the "good girl" side of her kick in? I recomend this book only to Cooney fans only because they might like her style of writing.

Caroline B. Cooney is a great author, no doubt, but I found this one of her weaker books. If you are looking for great books by this author, I recomend "Wanted!" "Flight #116 is Down!" "The Terrorist" and "Hush Little Baby.." These are all great books by this outstanding author.

Caroline Cooney has managed to weave a fascinating tale of suspense in her outstanding book, Mummy. A beautiful Egyptian mummy has disappeared from the museum. No one suspects that Emlyn, the girl who never gets in trouble, is the thief.

Emlyn is a good girl with a bad streak. She yearns to be a brilliant thief and commit the perfect crime. She keeps a library in her head of "wrong things to do, and how to do them." She makes mental notes of places to stash loot, of situations crying out for blackmail, or trust where there should be locks.

When her friends suggest stealing the Egyptian mummy from the museum and hoisting it up to the old high school's bell tower, Emlyn is ready. A crime such as this is what she's been waiting for all of her life. As Jack says, "Our senior class has to pull off a really exceptional trick for Mischief Night."

However, the director of the museum, Dr. Harris Brisband, is accused of the theft. Moreover, it turns out that greed is motivating her friends as much as the people on the museum board. Emlyn loves and respects the mummy, Princess Amaral-Re. She cannot bear to see it sawed up and the gold adorning its body taken.

Will Emlyn do the right thing? What exactly is the right thing to do? Emlyn thinks of a creative and unusual solution to her problem of what to do with the mummy and hopes it will work.
