Book Description

April 8 2000 M&S mystery
As a child Joanne was friends with Sally Love and her parents, but the friendship languished after Sally’s father died and she moved away, eventually becoming a very controversial artist. When the Mendel Gallery opens an exhibition of Sally’s work, Joanne is eager to attend and to renew their friendship. But it’s not so easy being Sally’s friend anymore, and soon Joanne finds herself ensnared in a web of intrigue and violence. When the director of a local private gallery is brutally murdered, Joanne finds that the past she and Sally share was far more complicated, and far more sordid, than she had realized.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder at the Mendel Jun 27 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
Even better than the first. I really like this smart sleuth and the details of her family life (love her kids) add to the story line and character development. The other characters are strong and powerful, and not just sitting on the sidelines. A very satisfying mystery with lots of twists and turns that had me going. Four murders that eat away at Joanne's childhood memories are to much for her to be satisfied with the neatly tied-up police verdict of who done it. At the end of it all, Joanne faces the truth and ends up with an addition to her family. Well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forty-something mom solves art community crime! Jan 23 1999

I chose to read this book because of its Saskatoon setting. It was instantly captivating to read about familiar streets and buildings. The Mendel Art Gallery and Spadina Crescent are signatures of Saskatoon.

I enjoyed having a forty-something female - especially a working mother - as the main character and sleuth...makes it seem like us regular folk just could have excitement in our lives! On top of it all, I learned something about my home town and province....the South Saskatchewan River really does empty into Lake Winnipeg!
