Product Description

Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye) of the Toronto police department pushes the boundaries of Victorian-era criminal science to solve baffling murders in this smart, compelling series. Season 4 pits the kindhearted cop against a would-be vampire, a costumed killer, and ruthless mobsters, inspiring him to whip up a slew of innovative crime-fighting techniques along the way. But while Murdoch nabs the culprits with the help of politically ambitious inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig, Where the Heart Is) and eager constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris, Hatching, Matching & Dispatching), he struggles to subdue his feelings for former sweetheart Dr. Julia Ogden (Gemini winner Hélène Joy, Durham County). Nominated for 25 Gemini Awards, Murdoch Mysteries is a good-humored twist on crime procedurals. Guest stars include Victor Garber (Alias, Titanic), Simon Williams (Upstairs, Downstairs), Peter Keleghan (The Red Green Show), and Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper in a cameo. Forensic sleuthing in the age of invention. As seen on public television and based on novels by Maureen Jennings. Special Features: Behind-the-scenes featurettes (15 min.) Alternate love letters (2 min.) SDH Subtitles

We were not disappointed! Yannick Bisson is superb and the whole season was a pleasure to watch.
Now we await Season 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best show on TV right now. Nov. 5 2012

We get to see the further adventures of Murdoch and co. Yannick Bisson tries his hand in the director's chair, and we get another tale with Terrence Meyers (my favourite recurring character). Unfortunately, the scene with PM Stephen Harper is not included in the episode, but there is a special feature about that part. The scene is in the special feature. Makes me wonder if they recorded an ordinary scene in addition to the PM's appearance for broadcasting overseas.

Excellent! Taking place in Toronto in late 1800's, early 1900's it has the beginnings of forensics. It has great mysteries, romance and humor.

A well-written, intelligent family-friendly program. An interesting look into police work in the 1890s-1900s with a little bit of scientific creative licensing to keep things interesting. CBC will air Season 7 this fall. A good chance to catch up on older episodes. This is not your typical run-of-the-mill police procedural. I highly recommend the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of Canadian "History" June 28 2013

I love detective stories, but this series, set in Canada, with a charming and intelligent agent, historical figures, and interesting supporting cast, is a real winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Toronto the good May 16 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The whole series is based in Toronto in the late Victorian era.
As such, it is non-violent (though there is crime) and somewhat
cartoonish if compared to modern crime shows.
However, so is Connery's James Bond if compared to the
Bourne series.
The cast is good, the good guys always win, evil is conquered
and Toronto is a proper city once again.
