Product Description

Album Description

The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection celebrates highlights of DC Comic's rich musical history including many rare theme songs that have never before been released. The compilation begins in 1941 with the theme song from Max Fleischer's Academy Award Nominated Superman Cartoons and moves through the decades. Theme songs from the DC Superhero Filmation cartoons from the 1960's including Justice League and Green Lantern are featured alongside the most recent Justice League and Green Lantern themes produced by WB Animation in the 2000's. The 1970's are represented by Hanna Barbera's Super Friends cartoons as well as the theme from the legendary Wonder Woman series starring Lynda Carter. Other highlights include DC superhero themes from John Williams, Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer and, of course, the unforgettable theme to the 1966 Batman TV Show starring Adam West.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small collection, Jan 29 2012

A good collection of themes, some that I haven't heard since childhood. The only shortcoming of this collection was that it was a bit short, not including some themes that I would have expected to see on this disc, such as the George Reeves Superman series, or the Flash from the early 1990's. Otherwise it's pretty fun to listen to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soundtracks and Superheroes, Oct 12 2010

If you're a fan of soundtracks, and Saturday morning TV and superheroes, this is an absolute must-have.

There are tracks here that have never been released before, much less in a clear-cut format. Themes like the Superman March, which accompanied the Max Fleischer cartoons of the 1940s; a track from "The Electrical Brain," which was the first movie appearance of Batman; and short themes from the Filmation shorts of the 1960s.

And of course there are superhero themes that are considered "the usual suspects" whenever soundtracks and superheroes are discussed: John Williams' Superman Theme, Danny Elfman's theme for Tim Burton Batman films, and the full version of the Neal Hefti theme from the Adam West Batman show. And these are the original re-mastered tracks, not re-orchestrations.

There are also a few glaring omissions, of course; the 1950s Superman theme for the George Reeves show, for example, and Elfman's music for the Flash TV series of the 1990s. But these are, in the end, minor quibbles; if you're anything of a completist when it comes to DC Comics, this album is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars So Little On Here, Jan 4 2011

DC has, as the title states, has been around for 75 years yet we are treated to a small offering of what is out there for themes and other music. For playing favorites with Superman, they give us the end theme of Season 8 for Smallville (huh), and they leave out his cousin Supergirl, who had a memorable score if not movie. Others have mentioned all the many, many missing tracks (on amazon.com) so I will just say that those behind this release must not have thought much of DC's library, didn't care, or were told to pump something out and had no ability to offer more than a Less Than Greatest Hits package in a single disc. Sure, this has some classic, hard to find themes and scores but other more important ones are missing, and some here are too soon (the recent animated Green Lantern movie theme over Batman: TAS!)
I suppose this is better than nothing but the main reason I'm buying this CD is for the collectible poster inside.
