This dazzling set of concertos was a landmark in the history of violin technique. However, these pieces really are "specialist" music, for lovers of the violin. Each concerto contains two solo "capriccios" for the soloist alone that explore the outermost limits of the player's performance ability. They are extremely difficult, even by today's standards. Elizabeth Wallfisch is a truly outstanding virtuoso on the Baroque violin, and she plays these difficult works with complete technical assurance. The accompaniment is similarly accomplished. If you just can't get enough of violin music and you're tired of the old standards (Paganini Caprices and stuff like that), this set is just the ticket.
