Music for Men (U.S. - Gossip
pretty good album from this Portland band,for the longest time i thought they were from london . Powerful vocals and good music. i saw them a few years back, their more polished now not as raw which is good and bad. the energy is still there but flow is more alternative pop than alternative punk. it still sounds good though. check it out.

In today's lame music scene it's rare for the public to become excited by a new release however with MUSIC FOR MEN by the trio GOSSIP (formely: The Gossip) that is exactly what will happen - you'll have a massive musical orgasm.
The lead vocalist BETH DITTO sounds like the rebel orphan child of CYNDI LAUPER and its quite hypnotic to hear her vocal style blend with the powerful uncompromising musical arrangements. In placing DITTO's vocals up front in the mix, the producers have demonstrated sheer musical brilliance.
The track listing on MUSIC FOR MEN is aggressively rhythmic.
Your feet will want to start moving upon first auditioning the CD.
The songs are catchy innovative pop rock with a slight hint of retro 1980s new wave.
The artwork and packaging for MUSIC FOR MEN also pays a campy tribute to the artists from that decade.
From a cover shot of GOSSIP's drummer Hannah Billie in an androgynous Grace Jones pose to the cartoon inner sleeve a la TOM TOM CLUB and "block font" hand printed lyrics a la TALKING HEADS.
The CD is a dream for any label's A/R department as the tracklist on MUSIC FOR MEN is seriously overflowing with massive potential hits.
SONY MUSIC has to seriously invest time into promoting this band and their CD & get the word out to radio and retail.
HEAVY CROSS, LOVE LONG DISTANCE, MEN IN LOVE, DIMESTORE DIAMOND, POP GOES THE WORLD and FOUR LETTER WORD rightfully deserve radio airplay during 2010.
The title track MEN IN LOVE contains a strong musical hook, witty lyrical content and a clever refrain that will shock Middle America and blow the so-called controversy of Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" out of the water.
It's about time that music became exciting once more!
GOSSIP should become the next "big thing" to hit the music industry in 2010 - you should purchase this release and get on board prior to the word getting around faster than nasty gossip. This is "Nouveau" New-Wave at its best!

This is an awesome CD. Everyone I've played it for thinks so, too. I'll definitely be looking for more from Gossip.

wow wow wow!!!! every day!!!! REFRESHING!!!!!
I bought this CD when I first heard the song heavy cross on the radio. But wow! Now heavy cross is the least of my favorite songs on this album. I enjoy this album from A to Z. Read more
