Product Description

From Amazon.com

Like dust motes dancing in hazy afternoon sunlight, the compositions of Scottish duo Boards of Canada seduce listeners by illuminating almost imperceptible elements flitting through the cluttered cosmos. Though their saturated hip-hop beats and deployment of timbres as tactile textures recalls Autechre, Boards of Canada are distinguished by sweet melodies and a fondness for using vaguely familiar sounds outside of Western harmonic tradition--snippets of party conversations, bouncing Ping-Pong balls--to function as emotional triggers. Despite its sonic watercolor washes and childlike exclamations of "I love you" ("The Color of the Fire"), Music Has the Right to Children is not some yellowing document scribbled by glassy-eyed, loved-up rave casualties. This exemplary, evocative recording almost hovers above any fixed point on the time line of pop-music history. --Kurt B. Reighley

5.0 out of 5 stars most gorgeous music I have ever heard, Jan 5 2004
By
cheeky (Ottawa, ON) - See all my reviews
This entire CD, through and through, is absolutley gorgeous. It is the most beautiful and moving thing I have ever heard. It's nostalgic and futuristic, mechanical and organic, all at once. When I listen to it I'm transported back to my childhood, back to watching TVO (Canada's PBS); yet there's an almost sinister quality to it that keeps you in reality. I've listened to it over and over again since I received it in the mail. I almost cry at the end of the album, Happy Cycling, when the synths come in near the end. It reminds you of childhood lost. This album will take you through all the range of emotions. It's just perfect. I'm a huge fan of BoC now.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's chill, but overhyped, Jun 2 2004
By A Customer
Ok, I really like the beats on this one. It's great to chill out to or study with. It's definately better than Geodaddi because it has more drums in it. However, I don't understand what the other reviewers are talking about. It hasn't made me look at the world any differently. And yes, I have listened to it on a set of studio monitors! It's a good album, but not life changing. Come on people, get a life.

I prefer Autechre to this music because it's less organic sounding. Autechre is much more precise and thought out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan From USA, April 5 2007
This review is from: Music Has The Right To Childre (Audio CD)
This Album is Art. Music is Art. Art is an expression/ interpretation. The listener can take their own ideals from the music. Those who view this music as satanic, I must ask first what is it that you find satanic? Is it anything not religious? Also if you do find this satanic perhaps you ought to make sure you listen to the Eagles more closely, Hotel California in particular. I am a religious person however i do have my own mind. Certain music may not be suitable for those with fragile minds, just as a history book may not be much more than a way of control.
