Additional Addinsell Gems,
By Daniel G. Berk (West Bloomfield, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Film Music (Audio CD)
If you're looking for another recording of the Warsaw Concerto, this is not the place. But if you're looking more quality film compositions by the composer of that popular film piece, then you certainly have come to the right place. It is a shame that Richard Addinsell is thought of only in terms of that one work, when, in fact, he composed much other high quality film music. This CD presents an excellent cross section of what you may have been missing.

It's a shame that the only music by Addinsell most of us know is 'The Warsaw Concerto'. He wrote plenty of other music, much of it also for the movies. He had the craft and the melodic gift to write first class light music. And that's what we have here. The 'Blithe Spirit' prelude particularly has stuck with me, popping up in my mind's ear at the oddest times. The performances and recording are top drawer.
