I've been looking for a DVD of Paris and surprisingly there aren't many out there. Considering that Paris is the most visited city in the world, there must be many tourists who are looking for one. I got excited when I found this one on Amazon because it sounded perfect, but it's quite disappointing. So much wasted footage of panning and close-ups of statues, for example. Such as an elephant near the Eiffel tower area. And ugly mannekins in a second-hand shop...too long and too close shots of the carousel by the Sacre Couer cathedral rather than the cathedral itself. (Then much later in the video we again see Sacre Couer.) What?!!
I'm writing this as I'm watching. There are a lot of long, repeated scenes such as in the library, Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel tower that take up so much valuable time. Considering how many wonderful sights Paris has to offer, why must we spend so much time seeing repeated scenes? And in no particular logical order either (eg. Sacre Couer)? The video keeps jumping from one site to another then back again.
Apparently the producer wanted an artfully done video--and it is--rather than just a souvenir, but I still think it could've been been more satisfying to both tastes if edited more logically. There's much to love in this video, but again, I wanted to see more of Paris, a little less unnecessary detail (a few seconds less on lettuce and artichokes).
