A BIG HIT WITH MY 3 YR OLD!, Nov 15 2005
By C.B. Radley - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: My Little Pony a Very Minty Ch (DVD)
My daughter is a big fan of Dora The Explorer & Sesame Street. Occasionally I can get her interested in something else. I've had some luck with the Richard Scarry videos, Winnie The Pooh, Strawberry Shortcake, and the Backyardigans so far. Suprisingly, she actually likes to watch the previews on all these videos. And I noticed she got very excited during the preview to A Very Minty Christmas that was on the Backyardigans DVD. She started saying "Pony!" everytime it would come on, so I decided to get this DVD for her. SHE LOVES IT! Just after the first viewing, she was ready to watch it again. The ponies and Ponyville are all so pretty and girly, which is probably why she likes it. Or it could be because they remind her of her grandma's Carousel collection, which she has also taken a liking to.
I'm actually excited that my daughter has shown interest in My Little Pony since I loved them when I was a kid in the 80s. And also that means I can be on the lookout for more DVDs and toys. I already got her the Minty pony for Christmas :).

Sweet - sickly sweet, Nov 3 2006

My daughter loves MLP. She has been collecting them for years. She loves
the new G3ponies (generation 3) but once she discovered the original shows from the
1980s, she's not as thrilled with these DVDs as she once was. This DVD and others
featuring G3 ponies are so sweet, they're sickly sweet.
I am sure a 3 year old would probably prefer this and other G3 pony DVDs but my daughter
is 12 and she prefers the original series now. I was shocked when I watched the 1980s
shows for the first time. I expected them to be like the "too cute" mega-sugar-coated
new ones, but to my surprise, the old episodes have actual plots and a huge assortment
of non-pony friends, as well as an ongoing assortment of bad guys. They're interesting and
most of them are fairly well written.
I really think it depends on the age of the viewer as to which MLP series is more appropriate.
I know a lot of people will say I'm wrong for only giving this 3 stars, but I've seen it
and that is how my daughter and I feel about this episode. Its very "safe" and very cute,
but on the other hand, the original series wasn't as scary as some reviewers have made
it out to be for other DVD reviews.
Its not that my daughter hated this episode, but she doesn't watch it over and over
like she does with the first season MLP from the 1980s.
Gauge by age.

The Great Minty, Nov 26 2005

I really loved the Minty movie. I've already watched it three times--twice when my Mom first bought it and once the day after. It was so much better than the Disney Christmas Princess Movie, which was short on princesses and long on promises. If you don't have it already, I recommended that you put on your coat, borrow a few dollars from mom and dad and go buy it. Be prepared for your mom to tell you, "Go to bed. How much longer are you going to watch that movie?" It's really that good for fans of the Ponies. Minty was clumsy as usual, knocking down the Here Comes Christmas candy cane. If you have just one show to watch before bedtime, this would be a terrific choice. My favorite song was, You cannot have anything better for Christmas than a sock. Thanks for listening to my review, and I hope it helps you make your decision with this video.
