The 23-year old Philadelphia singer/songwriter Melody Gardot's debut album Worrisome Heart introduced songs of quiet, wistful poetry with sophisticated after-hours arrangements. Yet the follow-up, My One And Only Thrill, marks a substantial leap forward. The album is an intensely creative milestone, transcending genre distinctions of jazz and blues to offer a haunting personal musical statement that will appeal to all music-lovers. As with her acclaimed live shows she captures and holds her audience in the palm of her hand. These eleven songs, covering a wide range of emotions, are all her own except for her irresistible, Brazilian take on "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." This LP is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and is out 3 weeks before the CD.

Melody Gardot has soul - and she knows how to convey the depth of her soul in her music. Her voice is haunting, the words express raw emotion, the musical arrangements are simple yet grabing and give her voice all the precedence it is due. Melody Gardot's beautiful, knowing voice - reminding me slightly of the great Peggy Lee - makes this album a must for jazz fans. I recommend it highly.

This limited edition features a bonus CD with Melody live in Paris. The main CD is great; however, the live CD is absolutely incredible. Her voice is sultry, warm and lucious on both CD's. The fact she writes most of her own material, plays piano and guitar plus sings is so impressive.
