Product Description

Product Description

Rachel Riley is the offspring of a depressingly unbroken home. Her mum and dad refuse to let her have a mobile phone, and have banned Ribena (too purple) and Eastenders (too common); her seven-year-old brother buys giant Des Lynam cut-outs and Will Young dolls from ebay and talks in Elvish; and the adopted dog eats her Pride and Prejudice boxed collection. It is time to change things. Rachel resolves that this year she will become tragic, literary and interesting - and will win the heartof Justin, the lead guitarist from Certain Death, along the way. Laugh-out-loud funny from beginning to end, this is a fresh new voice which will speak directly to teenagers everywhere. If Bridget Jones had kept a diary when she was a teenager, it is unlikely to have been this funny!

2.0 out of 5 stars So-Called Boring, April 1 2008
By M. Sellers "Bookworm500" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: My So-Called Life: The Tragically Normal Diary of Rachel Riley (Paperback)
This book is subtitled "The Tragically Normal Diary of Rachel Riley." Yup. That about covers it. It's just normal--not funny, not poignant, not much of anything, really. The diary has all the wit of an average 13 year old--little--and just about as much adventure. The most amusing part to me was when the movie attendant wouldn't let her in to see an over 11 movie because she wasn't tarted up enough to be 13, he thought.

It's also a bit hard to tell the characters apart (other than her family). I confused Justin, her crush, and Jack, her friend's brother, throughout the book as neither one really was much described. Which one is Fat Kylie again?

If you are looking for good laughs in an English teenage diary, try Louise Rennison's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, Oct 2 2011

Believe it or not, I bought this book in a Charity Shop for 25p. I thought it would be quite similar to Georgia Nicholson books.
Started reading about a week ago and I LOVE this book! It made me laugh so much! Rachel Riley, a normal 13 year old girl is confronted with all sorts of funny, hard and confusing things, and this is basically her diary. I found it quite hard to grasp who all the characters were sometimes, like Scarlets brother Jack, i thought he was her younger brother but it turns out they're twins...I think...
still very entertaining. Recomend this to 11 plus age group [like me!].
All round best buy! Great book!
