As a child, Sorcha adored Jonah, her father's second in command, and when he rejected her advances, she ran away from the cruel life her parents forced on her. That act of rebellion saved her life, but she'd watched the fire that destroyed the palace and killed her family and Jonah. That was before her transition--the coming of age for a hybrid lycan/human called a dovenatu--before she became strong and beautiful.
Twelve years later, after her elderly husband is torn apart by a demon, Sorcha sets out for the arctic to avenge his murder.
Jonah has never forgiven himself for not saving Sorcha from the inferno. She had been the only goodness and innocence in his life and he had failed to keep his vow to protect her. His current lonely existence as a demon slayer hardly makes up for years of working for Sorcha's depraved father. Knowing he's destined to die, he accepts a mission to the frozen north hoping to save the world from unimaginable horrors.
When Sorcha and Jonah come face to face in a wilderness cabin in Alaska, sparks start flying instantly. But Sorcha is not longer the innocent child who longed for his love and Jonah is shamed by the sexual need she ignites in him. Unfortunately, any chance of reconciliation is impossible given his mission is to stop her from getting her revenge and she's destined to kill him.
As these two battle demons, witches and ultimately an evil determined to destroy them both, Sorcha and Jonah can't deny their dovenatu animal natures or the emotions that refuse to stay buried in the past.
Over the four book Moon Chasers Series, Sharie Kohler has developed a rich world inhabited by lycans, dovenatus, witches and demons. Each book builds on the last, however, they also stand alone as a satisfying complete story. Fast paced, original, with plot twists the reader never sees coming, MY SOUL TO KEEP once again proves that Ms. Kohler is one of the masters of the paranormal romance genre!

My Soul to Keep (Moon Chasers, Book 4) by Sharie Kohler
Paranormal Romance - Aug. 31, 2010
4 stars
This is a fantastic series. My Soul to Keep is officially the 4th full length novel in the author's Moon Chasers werewolf series. (There is a short novella in the anthology Haunted by Your Touch coming out in Oct 2010.) What sets this series apart is that the werewolves are not noble creatures of the earth but savage, mindless, and violent. So instead of being celebrated, they are hunted down. All except for the rare dovenatu who are half-breeds. They are lucky because they have the ability to control their animalistic urges. In this story we are treated to a tale of 2 dovenatu with an emotional past history.
Sorcha is a dovenatu who was terrorized by her family. The only one she admired was Jonah who protected her. She idolized him but he rejected her young attentions. When a deadly fire kills all of her pack Sorcha is finally able to find a life when she is found by a elderly and wealthy man. He is fascinated by her abilities. He marries her and shows her how to love and accept herself. However, her joy is short lived when he is brutally murdered by a witch named Tresa who possessed by a demon. The same witch who cursed all her kind into becoming werewolves. Determined to have her vengeance Sorcha tracks down Tresa but is stopped by none other than Jonah!
Jonah is a demon slayer who protects witches from being possessed from demons. When one of the witches warns him that a woman is trying to kill Tresa he realizes he must prevent her. Because if the Tresa dies the powerful demon who possesses her will be set loose and create untold damage. But when he travels to stop the witch slayer he surprised, appalled, and aroused by a tough and sexy Sorcha.
I thought both of these characters had a lot of chemistry. Both needed and did complement each other. I liked Sorcha's new tough attitude and Jonah is very heroic and noble. Their past history added a lot to the story's depth. But I did get tired of Sorcha's single minded drive to kill Tresa even after she has been told repeatedly why it is NOT a good idea to let the demon free. Thankfully she redeems herself later in the book with her courage. I also admired Jonah but there is one change in his attitude when he drives Sorcha away that I felt really didn't fit his character. While I think both actions did add tension to the story I wish the author hadn't added them in since it made both of the characters behavior inconsistent even somewhat irrational. If it were not for those 2 issues I would rate this book as perfect! It certainly packs a lot of surprises and introduces some very interesting new characters. Especially, the werewolf hunter who is hated by his own.
A quick and highly entertaining paranormal romance. Sorcha is totally bad ass and Jonah is a hard-hitting knight in shinning armor. This is a book that readers looking for a new take on the werewolves mythology will enjoy!
