There's great musicianship on these tracks, and the guys backing up this duo are first rate. The vocals are weak in terms phrasing, musicality, and heart. The songwriters are top drawer, but in this climate they are forced to write tepid rehashes of 70s rock to make a buck. I've heard most of these songs sung by the guys who wrote them, and even though the songs are all sizzle and no steak, they do a much better job of them than MG. There is, all and all, a phoniness to this CD, bland and slick, designed not to offend. Imagine Waylon, Merle, or Cash neutered you'd get something like this. Completely forgettable and representative of what Nashville is about today. As Jed Clampett used to say, "Pitiful. Just pitiful."
