Book Description

May 1985
A hero to millions who adored his portrayals of Robin Hood and Fletcher Christian, Errol Flynn (1909-59) lived a life that far surpassed any adventure he ever acted out on screen: exotic travels, criminal exploits, passionate love affairs, violent confrontations, scandals, and international fame. In this highly readable, witty and colourful autobiography, Flynn reveals himself and his remarkable life as he did nowhere else.

Review

'The most entertaining autobiography ever by an actor' -- Jeffrey Meyers 'Its greatest distinction is that it manages to pass beyond the conventionally "frank" to the unconventionally truthful in its portrait of an engaging but by no means overscrupulous romantic extrovert' Times Literary Supplement 'A major autobiography in the tradition of Cellini, Casanova and Frank Harris. Perhaps it is not the book to leave alone in the house with your daughter, but Flynn was not the man to leave in the house with your daughter.' Guardian 'The confessions of a rake, unsparing of himself or anyone else' Newsweek 'An obstinately unabashed report' New Yorker --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

About the Author

Errol Flynn was an Australian-born American actor. He was known for his romantic swashbuckler roles in Hollywood films and his flamboyant lifestyle. After starring in Captain Blood (1935), Flynn became an overnight sensation, quickly becoming typecast as a swashbuckler and a rogue in a number of successive films. He followed Captain Blood with The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), and after his appearance as Miles Hendon in The Prince and the Pauper (1937), he was cast in his most celebrated role as Robin Hood in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - his first film in Technicolor. He went on to appear in The Dawn Patrol (1938) with David Niven, Dodge City (1939), The Sea Hawk (1940) and Adventures of Don Juan (1948). Throughout the 1950s his health deteriorated due to heavy alcohol and drug abuse, and he died in 1959 of a heart attack. His autobiography, My Wicked, Wicked Ways was published posthumously later that year. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest Errol May 3 2013
By Vito
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Illuminating and honest insight in the worlds archetypal swashbuckler both on and off the screen. An obviously troubled soul, compelled and obsessed to explore life, driven by his self-proclaimed runaway "curiosity". Truthful, witty, entertaining and ultimately tragic life of a restless man who gave us the real meaning of "I'm in like Flynn".

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun. April 1 2004

Boy! Did this guy do it all! This guy lived more life in one lifetime than most people could only possibly do in a thousand lifetimes. The title is most appropriate, and once you start reading it you won't be able to put it down until you're done. One of the most memorable books I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A STAR AMONG MORTALS. Mar 17 2004
Format:Paperback
This book is the best of the autobiograghies. Flynns magnitude was only matched by a few stars. Although there are a few errors since Flynn was suffering from booze and drugs - this is a true memoir of a man, star who regretted his life and knew he was dying very soon. I personally spoke to the ghost rider Mr. Conrad about his time with Errol. It can be said of Errol Flynn-" He was what every boy prayed to become , but as a man regretted he never achieved".

Noone can put this book down. Its a must read.
