Okay - this is not a comedy. But Joseph Gordon-Levitt is wonderful in this dark and brooding "mystery" of lost time past. An intriguing and wonderfully acted story of lost time - one who remembers nothing and the other who remembers everything (and not in a positive way). I admire Gordon-Levitt for his choices of roles - and he is stellar in this one! I was drawn in early and remained there for the entire film. I recommend highly - although keep in mind that this is not a light hearted story. But if you are into an absorbing story line, good direction, strong acting in a darker genre - this is your film!

As a teenage boy hetero-sexual, it might seem strange to say that Mysterious Skin is my favorite movie but it is. It's very disturbing for sure but it's touching in no way any movie could! Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a wonderfull, incredible, awesome job as Neil, a teenage hustler. One of the best acting I've ever seen if it's not the best. There is a lot of taboo subjects such as pedophilia, teenage sexualité, prostitution and homo-sexuality but Gregg Araki isn't giving dark or disturbing scene for nothing. Every moment is worth for buying it!

Neil (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Brian (Brady Corbet) played on the same Little League team when they were eight, but they grew into very different young men. Neil is a burned out, soulless prostitute, while Brian is shy and confused and believes in UFOs. When they meet again as adults, Neil reveals a terrible truth about that summer they played baseball.
This movie is a shocking look at pedophilia and how its effects on the lives of two children. It is at times difficult to watch, but the actors' performances are flawless. Gordon-Levitt is stunning as the young hustler who lives a zombie-like existence, and Corbet is appealing as the naive boy who thinks he was abducted by aliens. The story is cleverly constructed; parallel vignettes from each boy's life trace their development until they are reunited and the truth brings them a degree of peace. This is a brutal, sad story.

Deeply moving, oddly poetic film about child abuse and its aftermath

Fine Film
The fascinating and tragic plot, followed by acting rivalling hollywood's best saves this otherwise obnoxiously choppy film. Give it a shot, but read the book first!
