Review

"Cryptic and haunting...an engrossing read for a long, cold winter's night."— -- Kitchener-Waterloo Record

"Daring and inventive...impressive...What is important here is not the perpetrator but his motives, which really lie not with him but in the secrets of a small town.— -- The Whig Standard

"Highly readable densely constructed, moody and disconcerting; bafling yet glinty with insights..."— -- The Globe and Mail

Book Description

A great violence is being done to the village of Carrick. Most of its citizens are dead, and the survivors are literally talking themselves to death. What is this strange and unnatural plague, characterized by a barely recognizable odour and a garrulousness unusual in such a secretive people?

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting But Hollow, May 26 2007

This review is from: Mysterium (Mass Market Paperback)
The town of Carrick is well sketched, but the twists and turns of the plot feel so contrived that it doesn't draw you in to really care about the mystery.

Definitely not a mystery novel and the characters aren't realized enough for this to be a good fantasy-esque novel.
