Description

Join a team of explorers on the expedition of a lifetime as they set off to become the first to navigate the Blue Nile from source to sea. The epic 3,260 mile descent down the world's greatest and deadliest river has eluded humankind for centuries - until now! Ride shotgun on the team's 16-foot rafts as they crash through the rapids in Ethiopia's desert canyons. Battle through some of the world's most extreme whitewater rapids with renowned kayaker, Gordon Brown. Over the arduous, four month journey, the team faces nearly in-surmountable challenges - from crocodile attacks to armed bandits and arrests. Through breathtaking cinematography, Mystery of the Nile reveals a wondrous region and abundant treasures, from Tissisat Falls and the wonders of Egypt to the forgotten black pyramids of Meroe and 12th century churches that were carved into sheer rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery of the Nile, Feb 11 2009

(REAL NAME)
Mystery of the Nile is a beautifully done adventure-documentary with stunning visuals and a beautiful variety of musical scores. The film begins with the creation and planning stages of the adventure and follows through until the end. The entire film manages to maintain the audience's complete attention by employing powerful storytelling from various characters.

The visuals in the film are stunning and easily meet the expectations that both new and experienced Blu-Ray consumers would expect from a nature film. Whether you are watching a majestic waterfall or looking at ancient pyramids buried in the sand, every scene in the film is crystal clear and easy on the eyes.

The music provides this film with a beautiful and enchanting backdrop. The mix of music from various African cultures is almost haunting at times and does well to immerse the audience in the experience.

The characters in the adventure are compelling as well. Each member of the expedition is extremely well spoken and (usually) attractive - leading me at one point to believe that the entire cast was put through auditions before being selected. Whether this is true or not the cast comes together perfectly to create a compelling adventure experience.

This movie receives a perfect review for its overall excellence. I recommend this film to anyone who has an interest in foreign cultures, adventure or nature.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, Nov 19 2010
I was really looking forward to this documentary, and was very disappointed. Do not buy it. It is only 45 minutes long, and has a couple good shots of the Nile and that's it. They don't go into any detail about where the Nile starts or ends. There was very little footage of anything at all, just the people who made the documentary talking about their feelings on the side of the river. I wanted to actually see the start of the Nile and the end, and you never see it. The film starts and they are already mid-voyage, and then suddenly ends as they apparently got to the end. Very little footage of them rafting, and it is hard to believe they actually made it, they are all amateurs.. VERY DISAPPOINTED, DO NOT BUY!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful with the sound off, Jan 5 2009
By Brian V. Hunt "Brian V. Hunt" - Published on Amazon U.S.
This review is from: Mystery of the Nile [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Like many films in this genre, this one is often better viewed with the sound off. The blu ray transfer is good in most places and some of the cinematography is exactly what you want on a big LCD via blu ray. The narration is pedestrian at best, adding little and sometimes detracting from the enjoyment. It's a bit overwrought and melodramatic. If you can pick it up inexpensively, it does have some impressive eye candy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best IMAX Films, Aug 6 2006
By Steven B. Wallach "left of center" - Published on Amazon U.S.
This review is from: Mystery of the Nile (DVD)
Over the years I have seen many IMAX films...most were forgettable, a few unforgettable. "Everest" is one IMAX film that still lingers in my memory. This film is almost as good as that film. It is beautiful, educational and exciting. It, at times, kept me on the edge of my seat. My whole family agreed it was a memorable and worthwhile viewing experience. P.S. It also has a wonderful soundtrack.
