HASH(0xb538b6e4) out of 5 stars Very happy with Live 09 Nov. 24 2008

Very happy with Live 09. I liked the DNA feature and the 365 updates. Rosters, line-ups get updated daily.(but i read that ratings were not, have to check if that was addressed by the recently released patch) I liked the graphics more and the gameplay is improved. My co-worker got it too and we've played a bunch of very good online games already. Online game is easy virtually no lag at all (PS3 using wireless connection) and it is easy to find someone you can play against. The pick-in-roll control is very nice feature and a lot of plays for both offense and defense. I liked the signature moves and are different from each players (ie. Tony Parker floater is different from CP3's). Overall, i'm very happy and satisfied with this game. My only gripe is that the game is still in 720p not 1080p but still looks great on my 52" HDTV.

HASH(0xb55fb3cc) out of 5 stars No effort from EA this time. April 12 2009
A Kid's Review - Published on
Platform for Display: PlayStation 3
I don't know if EA just thought they could put out a faulty game because they could fix the problems online later or what, but with all the amazing games that are coming out now it's inexcusable that a simple basketball game would be this glitchy. Some of the problems:

1. Sometimes the game just starts acting weird. I took over in the middle of a simulated game, only to find that there were 2 Russell Westbrooks on my roster, one at SG and one at PG. When I inbounded the ball, the game froze. Strange things like this happen at random times.
2. A number of times I've been called for goaltending when blocking a dunk attempt.
3. A very high percentage of missed jumpers hit the top of the backboard and get called out of bounds. Sure this sounds like nothing, but when it happens several times in a close game it starts to be a problem.
4. Even really good shooters frequently shoot wide airballs.
5. No matter how much you shoot 3's in the NBA Academy, your players will never improve their outside shooting ability.
6. In the low post offense drill, sometimes your player will catch the ball after making a shot and even though the clock is still running, you can't score anymore points.
7. In the pick-and-roll offense drill, level 3, the computer always gives me credit for 2,000 fewer points than I actually scored.
8. I have not yet found anyone who knows how to complete the team practice as the game gives you no instructions other than to find 2 plays to run for each player. What makes this confusing is that you can only pick 8 plays and you have 5 players. Do the math.
9. For those of us who don't subscribe to Live 365, we are stuck with the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Citys because they put this out before the Thunder even chose a name, which is a little too early if you ask me.
10. Missed layups, missed layups, missed layups.
11. The cutscene graphics look like they belong on the original PS.
12. When you knock the ball loose from a defender, the camera stays on the player and you can't see where the ball went to chase it down.

There are countless other problems that plague this game. Maybe it sounds like I'm just griping, but if you play this game for any extended period of time you'll find yourself frustrated with it as I have. This was a weak attempt from a company that has shown an ability to put out good games in other sports.

HASH(0xb538b6c0) out of 5 stars Solid Effort. Oct. 10 2008

EA has vastly improved this year's version of Live. As the previous reviewer stated, the graphics and announcing are amazing. I think the 365 feature will be amazing as well once the season gets started (it may bump the game to a 5 star level). The only complaint is the players lack of continuation to the basket on some fast breaks and the somewhat "plodding" nature of some player movements. I have owned 2K and Live over the last several years. All in all, this version is a solid 4 star effort by EA (4.5 - 5 star depending on how 365 works).

HASH(0xb538b2d0) out of 5 stars Better than expected Nov. 23 2008

The last NBA live i bought was 06 for xbox. The last few ive rented but have not been impressed, so therfore held off on purchasing any. This year i felt i HAD to get an update and am pleased to announce they have finally moved forward instead of backwards. Ive gone w/ the ps3 version this time because i never got a 360, but the online mode and new DNA seem to be alright. NEVERTHELESS, if your like me and have been holding off the last few years, you wont be disappointed by this years incarnation of Live.

HASH(0xb53c3f9c) out of 5 stars Is fun overall, but has a few flaws June 10 2009

As a big Cleveland Cavaliers fan, I saw this game at a rental store and thought that I would give it a try. Here are the good and bad things about the game based on my opinions:

The Good:
1. The graphics are very nice, and are some of the best I have seen in video games.
2. A lot of the movements the players make in the game are very realistic to how real players move on the court, and aren't all messed up like the movements on older basketball games.
3. I really enjoyed how the game had the actual players of each team, and I was able to recognize some of my favorite players.

The Bad:
Now I have only been playing this game for a short while, but I have had a few annoying problems with the game.
1. One thing that has been extremely annoying in this game is how it is pretty much impossible to hit a three point shot. No matter how many times and different ways I have tried, the only time I can make a three point shot is about 1/20. This has also been a problem with making jump shots as well, only not as bad.
2. Pretty much the only times I can make a sucessful shot is by holding down the square button to make my player go in for a lay up or a dunk, and usually he misses if he isn't extremely close to the basket.
3. The refs call fouls almost every single time I try to steal the ball away from another player. It's at the point where it is pointless to try to steal the ball because I know that I will get called for a foul automatically, yet the other team can steal the ball from me the exact same way and not get called for it.
4. The players on the other team can easily block your shots to the point where it is frustrating, yet it is almost impossible to block the shots from other players yourself. Like another reviewer stated already, blocking a shot in this game is just a matter of luck, not timing or position.
5. I hate how in the practice area it will only let me control one player. At the beginning of the game it tells you to select your favorite team (I chose the Cavaliers), and then those are the players that you will use to practice with. I have no idea why, but for some reason it will only let me control Zydrunas Ilgauskus (Cavaliers player), and no one else. I have pushed the buttons on the controller to try to switch players but it does not work. It will only let me control one while two other players are practicing, and Lebron is just standing there dribbling a ball and doing nothing.

I'm sure that I will get better as I go along but this is the way I feel about the game so far. I give it an overall 4 out of 5 stars. I believe that it is worth a rental but is not worth spending the price that is listed here as of right now.
