They just ****** with the wrong Mexican!, Jan 6 2011
I really didn't know what to expect with Machete. Can you really expand a trailer into a full length movie and have it remain as funny, as action packed, as creative? Robert Rodriguez answers us, "Yes"!
First of all, Danny Trejo is awesome. A machete-wielding vigilante, he has been offered a considerable sum of money to assassinate a corrupt senator (Robert DeNiro). However, it's a double cross! The attempted shooting only boosts the senator's popularity, thus ensuring his election victory.
Machete is not alone. His brother the Padre (Cheech Marin) is a gun-totin' pot-smokin' priest with a determination to right some wrongs. Blood, gore, people's intestines being used as a rope...this movie has everything you were hoping for and some things you weren't. Done in the same campy style as Grindhouse, scratchy film and all, if you're in on the joke you will love Machete. If you don't get it, you never will.
Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, and Steven Segal round out the cast and they were all clearly having a blast. DeNiro especially seems like he was having a great time camping it up with his cheesiest character yet. And then there's the most overrated star of all time, Lindsay Lohan. I'm not sure what she's doing here, except to attract some more viewers who want to see her frolicking around topless. Her role was completely extraneous.
Blu ray bonus features are kind of sparse. A few deleted scenes. I was kind of hoping for another one of Robert's cooking features, they're fun. Ahh well.
5 stars. If you are a fan of this genre, and liked movies such as Grindhouse or Black Dynamite, you will love Machete. If you're looking for glossy Hollywood action, look elsewhere.

over the top fun, May 19 2011
this is one over the top film,in terms of violence and gore.but it's mostly done with tongue firmly planted in cheek.the nudity is gratuitous, intentionally.it earns it R rating and then some.the whole thing is absurd, but in a good way.there's not a dull moment.if you're not into excessive (and brutal)violence, nudity, sex and the like, this is not you movie.however,if above doesn't bother you, then i highly recommend this film.it's a lot of fun,but it's almost exhausting.Danny Trejo is terrific as the title character, and the supporting cast is great too.Steven Seagal has a fairly prominent role and is actually pretty good.Don Johnson is almost unrecognizable and Robert De Niro is excellent as well.as long as you know what you're in for going in,you should enjoy this film.for me,Machete is a 5/5

2.5 -- It's no Planet Terror, Jan 8 2011
This review is from: NEW Machete (DVD) (DVD)
It pains me to say this but in the latter half of Machete, I was really just looking forward to it ending. It's not a bad movie and it certainly has its moments, but it almost completely lacks the freshness of Planet Terror. It's nicely over-the-top in parts, but woefully slow and talky in others. At times it feels uncomfortably between a grindhouse movie and a serious movie with a political message. For those who enjoyed the scratchiness and missing-reel effects of Grindhouse, you might be disappointed. I know I was. Machete ultimately feels like what it is - a full-length movie that was made from a 3-minute trailer (an awesome trailer, I might add). As for me, I'll stick to watching the original trailer and follow it up by watching the hilarious and genius Planet Terror.
