Since picking up a blu-ray player (PS3), I now only look for blu-ray versions when purchasing movies. Animation is awesome in blu-ray and this movie beautifully demonstrates the format....and is definitely a must have for fans of this title as well as those who have the hardware.
My video hardware is a 52" Sharp Aquos and I've got to say that the video quality is "sharp" at any distance, the colours are vibrant. I'd may even be so bold to say that the HD format was designed specifically for animation.
I only have a 6.1 DTS receiver that's a few years old, so for sound quality I can't comment on the TrueHD 5.1, but my receiver recognizes it as DTS - sounds as good as any action or sci-fi flick in surround.
(Edit) - did not find BD Live content in the first movie, but Madagascar 2 does have little BD Live content. Also, the extras from the first movie are mostly standard def, while Madagascar 2 has mostly HD extras.
Very little for BD Live content, but from what I understand, they can always provide more, so I guess I'll have to check from time to time.
I also picked up the 2nd movie and my comments would be the same.
It's a great family movie and my son loves it. We initially watched this at the theatre and I've got to say in my opinion, I prefer the home experience more when presented in this format....now I just have to simulate movie theatre popcorn smell in the house and gum laden floors and I'll be set.
