5.0 out of 5 stars Visually Stunning in Blu-ray Feb. 11 2009
Since picking up a blu-ray player (PS3), I now only look for blu-ray versions when purchasing movies. Animation is awesome in blu-ray and this movie beautifully demonstrates the format....and is definitely a must have for fans of this title as well as those who have the hardware.

My video hardware is a 52" Sharp Aquos and I've got to say that the video quality is "sharp" at any distance, the colours are vibrant. I'd may even be so bold to say that the HD format was designed specifically for animation.

I only have a 6.1 DTS receiver that's a few years old, so for sound quality I can't comment on the TrueHD 5.1, but my receiver recognizes it as DTS - sounds as good as any action or sci-fi flick in surround.

(Edit) - did not find BD Live content in the first movie, but Madagascar 2 does have little BD Live content. Also, the extras from the first movie are mostly standard def, while Madagascar 2 has mostly HD extras.

Very little for BD Live content, but from what I understand, they can always provide more, so I guess I'll have to check from time to time.

I also picked up the 2nd movie and my comments would be the same.

It's a great family movie and my son loves it. We initially watched this at the theatre and I've got to say in my opinion, I prefer the home experience more when presented in this format....now I just have to simulate movie theatre popcorn smell in the house and gum laden floors and I'll be set.

5.0 out of 5 stars riotously enjoyable animated romp (4.5/5) Feb. 1 2008
By falcon
for me,this is a ridiculously funny animated adventure.i had a riot
while watching.there's some great funny dialogue, some hysterical
physical comedy.there is nothing subtle about this movie.they really
hit you over the head with the comedy.but in this case, that's a good
thing.but beyond comedy, there's also some adventure.the story is also
good.the movie is well paced, and has a terrific mix of characters, each
with their own quirky traits, who all seem to fit well together.the
voice work is very good here.every character's voice fits perfectly.the
film is rated G,which is appropriate, although here is some rude humour
involved.as far as animated comedy/adventures,this is one of the
best.for me Madagascar is a 4.5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Picture not so Great Sound March 11 2009

Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
The PQ was first rate and the movie is very entertaining. I won't go into info about the plot as you can find this elsewhere. My only issue is that the AQ is sub-par as the surround-rear channels are barely used and are very quiet when present.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Animation, fun music, but.... Dec 9 2005
By A Customer
Unfortunately at the end of the movie my first impression was "Is that all?" This was a box office hit, but really there wasn't much of a story to it; it was like a newspaper article, this happened, that happened, but no "feel good" at the end, no "the world is a great place after all" but instead "you see, the world reverts to basic instinct no matter what....and that's the way it is (maybe) meant to be." However, it is mindless, and good for the animation and characterisation, but we bought it, when it should have been a rental. My thoughts anyway....

5.0 out of 5 stars Hillarious Entertainment for the Whole Family! Feb. 15 2009
By James Gallen TOP 100 REVIEWER
"Madagascar" is an animated comedy in which four stars, a zebra, a lion, a hippo and a giraffe, of the Central Park Zoo decide to find their destiny in "The Wild." After making their improbable escape, they end up on the island of Madagascar on which they learn that they really did not have it so bad and that the grass is not always greener on the other side. They even find out that they change when they are away from their friendly surroundings. You will be laughing so hard that you will not even think about the message. This is just hilarious entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Voyager avec vos amis préférée :-) Dec 27 2008
