2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing But Fluff, Dec 12 2008
By
Greg Curtis - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a couple of successful entrepreneurs who marry, not knowing the other's true vocation. In reality, each runs a covert spy company working for unnamed branches of the government. Six years into their marriage, they have become bored and are seeking counselling. It is not until they are assigned to eliminate each other that the sparks (and bullets) begin to fly.

Director Doug Liman tries to mimic the sophistication and pacing he used in "The Bourne Identity/Supremacy", but fails to generate any suspense. Without exotic locales and intrigue, the story comes off as nothing more than a high-tech domestic squabble. Further, there is not one original idea, as every scene is lifted from another movie.

Simon Kinberg's script takes an unbearably long time setting up the point that both partners are completely oblivious to the other's exploits. His attempt to pay homage to the romantic comedies of the 1930's is admirable, but the witty banter of the leads quickly becomes tiresome. Though there are some interesting twists, the narrative has more bullet holes than those on screen.

Both Pitt and Jolie are ultra-cool and share a sizzling chemistry, but Mr. & Mrs. Smith seems merely an excuse to pair two of Hollywood's most attractive players. They are pleasant to watch, but the entire production is as superficial as Hollywood itself. Rating: 5 out of 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars high octane action,with comedy and romance(what a blast!), Sep 29 2007

wow,talk about a great movie.action,comedy romance,brilliant
dialogue, you name it.add to that the perfect choice of casting brad
Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the lead roles.the basic premise of the
story is that Jane (Angelina Jolie) and John Smith(Brad Pitt)are a
husband and wife who have become bored with their marriage.what the
they don't know is that each is a top assassin.and each has been
contracted to kill the other.all i can day is is if you're looking for
high octane action, comedy, romance, look no further.the chemistry between
Jolie and Pitt is so palpable it crackles.the action scenes will leave
you breathless, the witty dialogue is brilliant.Vince Vaughn plays
Eddie, friend to john and is hysterical in the comic relief dept.it
should come as no surprise that this a well crafted film, considering it
is directed by Doug(The Bourne Identity)Liman, another great action
picture. The great writing comes courtesy of Simon Kinburg, who also
wrote X-men-the Last stand.as for "Mr and Mrs Smith" a perfect 5/5

1.0 out of 5 stars Boo 2, Dec 1 2005
By
Michael Ratcliffe "sentimentalist" (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I agree with the author of the Boo review. This film is a waste of time and effort on the part of any audience who needs more than images of Brad Pitt to entertain them. While disappointing in general, the most disappointing plot elements were the fact that it took too long to end and when it did, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were still living. Rarely have I prayed so strongly for the demise of the heroes but then, rarely have I seen such a terrible film.
