Major Tom was indeed written in German. David Bowie wrote a song called Space Oddity and a follow up several years later called Ashes to Ashes. He did NOT write a song called Major Tom. Peter Schilling took the character of Major Tom and wrote a song about him. I happen to think the German version is better.

Joseph Watt's review is ignorant. "Major Tom" was not originally written in German. David Bowie wrote the song, in English!

The father of techno music April 6 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Peter Schilling is cosiderated by me, the actual real father of the techno music. In his songs Peter, mixed multiples instruments, of rock, techno and electric guitar. Peter invokes his echo metalic voice, the general sound is perfect. I listen his songs in one hundred number ocasions. His works are very EXCELENT.
Please don't miss TERRA TITANIC. It's the best Peter Schilling song. (In album: The diferent Story)

Major Tom (in German) June 9 2001
By Joseph Watt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Those of you who would like to know what the US album release of "Major Tom" sounded like, before they released it in English... then here ya go! I actually prefer this version over the English "re-release", as the "flow" of the vocals seems to be better, since German was the original language all the songs were written in. One little bonus... for DJ's who would like to go back and forth between the German version and the English version of "Major Tom"... the two are EQ'd exactly the same. Enjoy. - jw

Mr Barnham is actually incorrect. Aug. 5 2004
By Cybele A. Baker - Published on Amazon.com

This Major Tom is not the song David Bowie wrote is an homage to Bowie's song which is quite different.

Pete Schilling is an amazing song writer and brilliant musician Ive enjoyed his work for years. Even in German his songs have beauty to them.
Worth it, if you get a good deal. Aug. 14 2013

The review is for the German version, featured here. This version is much more accessible and easier, not to mention cheaper, to obtain than the OOP (out of print) American/English version of this product. I originally wanted to find the combo version (also OOP), having both versions contained in its track-listing; however, it is no longer available, unless you enjoy being butt-raped by price-gauging a-holes and pony up $100+ for it ... So, I got this version for much less money and must say it satisfies. Bought it for the obvious track "Völlig Losgelöst" (the German version of Major Tom). There are some other good tracks, but nothing worth paying a ton of money for in my opinion. I grew up with the German version and agree with other reviews here, stating that the German lyrics tend to fit better. If you wish to seek out the English version, good luck and have fun paying a ton of money for it, if you can find it (unless you pursue other methods, that may be ... um ... illegal and discouraged by this user and Amazon and stupid record labels, who can't get the clue that people still want to buy this item). So, yeah. That's my rant on it. Enjoy!
