Album Description

Though she's only 25, Canada-based songstress Serena Ryder is already a world-traveled artist, hailed by No Depression for her "pipes. presence. potential." Now, the singer/songwriter Billboard declared to be "Canada's Most Promising" is poised to present herself to American audiences with Is It O.K, Serena Ryder is a truly eclectic spirit, whose passion for music spans a wide array of styles, from Folk and Country to Jazz, Blues, and Rock `n' Roll. She has toured extensively with such great acts as Steve Earle, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings of The Guess Who, The Corrs, Blind Boys of Alabama, Eric Hutchinson, Paolo Nutini, Stephen Kellogg, Matt Duke and many others. With the release of her Atlantic Records debut, Serena Ryder continues on her path of becoming one of the most revered female singer/songwriters of her generation and at this rate, it doesn't look like she's slowing down anytime soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serena Ryder is an upcoming worldstar, Jan 31 2009

This review is from: Is It O.K. (Audio CD)
This is now the second cd I got from that great canadian girl. The CD "If your memory serves you well" is a "must have" as well. I'm living in Germany and her music is completely unknown that area so far - without any understanding (no promotion). Know her from the radio by a visit in Vancouver once. She`s singing good as Amy Winehouse, Gabriella Cilmi or Dolly Parton (Jolene). Her voice is so fantastic and each song gives a goose-skin ;O) Got the chance to buy that cd here in the canadian Amazon and the delivery was without any delay or problem. Thanks therefore! Her next CD - hope soon - I`ll get here again.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is More Than OK!, Dec 30 2008
By
This review is from: Is It O.K. (Audio CD)
I wanted to load a whole bunch of songs onto my new Blackberry with my 8 gigs of memory. The theme, new tunes from the last couple of years.

So off I went, going through the many 2007/8 CD's I purchased, and when it came to Is It Ok, I was pleasently surprised that I had selected almost ALL the songs! Just to put this into perspective, my choice was from 44 CD's, mostly from the harder edge of rock. Therefore, Is It OK is shuffled amongst the Rush's, Foo Fighters, Evan's Blue's and other hard rockers. Believe me, it's that good.

Is It Ok is amazing! Each and every song is a story worth listening to. Each lyric is worth singing along too. Each song will have you tapping all fingers and toes! It's that good! Rarely does an album have so many songs that are worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ryder definitely raises the bar on "Middle of the Road" pop-folk, April 10 2009

Ms. Ryder has a voice that has a depth and colour that adds a richness and texture to her songs -- some very good self-written material on this disc -- raising this CD well above standard MOR folk-pop artists, such as John Mayer or India Irie. While not (yet) quite up to the creative standard and freshness of Feist or early Joni Mitchell, "Is It Ok" is well worth buying.

I just hope that Ms. Ryder gets an opportunity to continue recording (i.e., sells enough CDs); that is the usual concern for Canadian artists. She will be an artist worth following...

Cheers.
