I'm not a member of the KISS Army. I worshipped these guys in elementary school, but pretty much dropped off when the makeup came off in about (for me) Grade 7. This year, I'm turning 40... and hell, maybe I wanted to recapture some of those magic moments from my childhood years. A big part of those years was KISS.
So I bought 'Destroyer' on iTunes, which turned out to be, regrettably, a pretty flat experience. Because I began to realize that, unless you're *looking at* these guys while you listen to them, you're getting less than half the package. So I bought this set.
And it rocks.
Growing up in small-town Alberta as I did, you could forget about a KISS concert. If you wanted KISS, you had three choices: the albums, the bubblegum cards, and 16 magazine. Because of this, I (like all the other kids in my neighbourhood) began to deify these guys. This set certainly allows you to continue to do that, but what shocked me (no pun intended), as a musician myself today, was how KISS were just a quartet of rock n' roll dudes from the 70's, making it up as they went along. And you get to watch every step of the way. A full concert from each tour is presented here, and it's such a thrill to watch the costumes evolve, and hear old favourite songs introduced into the repertoire for the first time.
Some folks here have quibbles about the quality - I don't. I should say, this is the first dvd I've bought since switching to blu-ray over two years ago. Does the dip in quality bother me? Not in the least.Read more ›
