Product Description

At the age of two, Alex Ovechkin found a hockey stick in a Moscow toy store and wouldn't let go, and he's been playing ever since. This Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin Great 8 DVD follows the All Star's life as he is mobbed by fans throughout North America and in his native Russia. But while he honors his fans and reflects on his roots, you'll go inside the life of a driven competitor who is always looking ahead.

What a waste of time and money.. even DVD plastic... that guy is NOT a TEAM player.
Like that tv guy once said (a former coach, no less); "The washington team has a collection of great individual players...." They only play for themselves, look at that guy when he got his trophy for the most goals, or points (whatever) at the end of the 2014 season. it is in an INDIVIDUAL trophy and he had the nerves to say on TV that it was for his team.. yeah, if ONLY he played for his team and not himself, they MIGHT go further in the playoffs.. someday... it's like the Russian team in Sochi Olympics: amounted to nothing, thanks to this great collection of individual players....
I wish I could put ZERO star,,, because in the hockey firmament of TEAM players, he IS A ZERO

I enjoyed this DVD but it was only 45 minutes long. Why go through all the trouble of doing a DVD
if your not going to go all the way. I felt it was over before it started. Wasted opportunity. The makers of this
DVD should have watched the Wayne Gretzky one that was released many years ago so they would know what a real hockey DVD is supposed to be like.

Could have been so much more! March 4 2011

Is it entertaining? Well. Yes - but I'd qualify that with the note that it is somewhat boring. It mostly consists of viewing him at his house in Russia (summer house I think) and that's pretty much it. I was hoping that it would include a lot more about the Caps and the way he interacts with other players. A team view with a focus on what he means individually to that team. Interviews with more Caps players and others. While some things were included it mostly had the flavor of "here's where he grew up and what it was like".

I am a huge Caps fan - and though I did enjoy this it was not what I had hoped it would be. If I'm judging fairly I'd say it was o.k. (hence the 3 stars) but the potential for a 5 star DVD was entirely missed. It's too bad really.

I purchased this for my older son for Christmas since he and his brother have played hockey for years and are huge Ovechkin fans. They LOVED it! I happened to see it a couple days before, when the NHL Network aired it mid-day. This inside look at Ovie shows him in a positive light and highlights his excellent athletic ability and not just in hockey. His parents are interviewed (speaking Russian with English subtitles) and the good thing about having the dvd is you can pause or rewind it if you missed the translation. I hope one day he wins the SC because that would be a celebration worth watching!
I give it 5 stars, becasue it's Ovie Dec 14 2011

I was not too impressed with the format of this DVD, but I am a fan of Ovechkin, so I still give it a 5 star rating.
