I have read this book in its entirety and am currently working my way through it again. I have other Bibles and I must say none of them can even compare to this version. If you want literal, precise reading that is untainted by other peoples veiws on the subjects within, then this is the Bible for you. RAYMIE D. CONNOLLY JR.

An extremely easy to understand version of the Bible translated and written to convey its meaning and lessons to late 20th century people.
Whether the Bible is truly a historical book (its really a set of books), and whether one is a believer in divine origin or inspiration of the Bible isn't necessary to gain insight into lessons about life and humankind's place on earth and their relationships with each other.
Critics of Christians should also understand that the New Testament's theme is God's "new" relationship with people, including Gentiles; and the Old Testament deals with God's relationship with Jews alone. The previously exclusive "chosen people". Those who focus on contradictions between the Old and New Testaments and the negative aspects of the stories, especially in the Old Testament, are missing the point of the Bible. It is to learn about life and one's place in it in relation to God. For the Christian, the New Testament "supersedes" the agreement with God in the Old Testament. So don't hold the Old Testament values against them. Read it anyway and learn what you can from it. Decide for yourself.
As someone said, "If it can be applied to you, learn from it. If not...don't worry about it!"

I really have enjoyed the Audio Bible. It enables me to listen to The Word while driving in my car. I'm exploring areas of the bible that I haven't been able to get at with all the time commitments in my life, especially in the Old Testament. I enjoy this version (NIV) and the reader, Stephen Johnson has a voice that allows for good listening. The background music is nice and not overbearing. My only criticism is where the editors fixed what I assume are reading mistakes with voice-overs that don't quite match the volume and cadence and interrupts the music in the background. This calls attention to the change and draws attention from The Word. It would have been better if they opted for a re-read of the entire chapter (track) rather than fix things as they chose. Even with this minor glitch in the production, I am very pleased with my purchase. I welcome the availability of the CD version. The CD's come in a binder-like folder with the typical see through plastic holders for the CD's . This makes it easy to browse through the CD's as the Book/Chapter name that comprise the tracks are printed on the CD. For example, was easy for my son to find and borrow the CD that contained the book of Job to listen before a bible study class. I am sure this purchase will enhance your understanding of the bible. There is something about both listening to the spoken word and having it heard in the context of the verses before and after that enhance your knowledge of the scriptures. Enjoy and grow in faith ... Steve

I am a recently born again Christian and chose this Bible to help me learn. I am so glad I did since it even has a reading plan to get into the Bible and one to get through it. I have two copies of this one at the office and one at home (the small one I take to church on Sundays, where we use this along with other translations). I find the index very useful and the maps instructive in putting places in perspective.
although I should not respond to the previous scathing review, I feel I must just ask a question: Why is it that non believers are so angry at us? Is it because we're deluded or because they are empty and still in search of their promise. I say "'Why should you care?" And most things taken out of context or literally can be toxic. Just as toxic as the hatred spewed forth by the reviewer who is much more to be prayed for than condemned.

Navigating this Bible is a nightmare. It needs to be changed to a search bar on the first page - one that is big enough to accommodate the size of fingers - one that can have the book and verse entered to go directly to the scripture you want to read. By the time I can find a reference, Church service is long over. Usability of this Bible is extremely poor.

I love this version of the Bible - I only wish I could use it.

I have to agree with the other reviewer that said that the Kindle edition of the NIV Bible is very difficult to navigate for some reason. I've read other books on my Kindle and never found them this easy to lose my spot in and hard (near impossible) to find it again. I was really disappointed because the NIV Bible is so easy to read and understand, but using the Kindle version is too frustrating.

This is the Bible to give to anyone who has never owned or seen a Bible before. It contains no study notes, no interpretations, no human contribution to the contents except translation. It is the Word of God and only the Word of God--the power of God unto salvation--in plain, easy to understand English. Read it cover to cover at least once a year and you will discover treasures!
