The Margaret Mitchell Fund for Women, which Ms Mitchell established after her retirement, continues to support women's self-help projects and scholarships. Prior to entering political life, Margaret Mitchell pioneered community development in Vancouver, helping people to organise and improve life in the city's poorer neighbourhoods. I recently read this book. It is important to read history, to understand where we have come from. While Margaret Mitchell made a difference to women, women and politics, and society, it wasn't as interesting a read as I thought. We have many women, beginning with the Famous Five, including people like the author, and, for example, Marion Dewar.

What women are looking for is more insight into coping with a personal life and a political career. I blame the publisher for keeping the book so short. Much more detail, and portraits of the phenomenal women Ms. Mitchell met and influenced would have been a better read.

It is a factual history book of accomplishments, with little emotional content. The section on the dying and death of her dear husband could have been deeper, as well as an exploration of a relationship between husband and political wife and the 'sisters' who supported her on her journey.
