This review is from: NOVELS DASHIELL HAMMETT (Hardcover)
Most mystery readers know The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man, but here are the other three books Dashiell Hammett wrote that you may not of heard of. Red Harvest, The Dain Curse and The Glass Key are also good, but you can tell the difference in the two main titles and why they became such classics, aside from the movies made from them. These are the complete novels Hammett wrote, such a shame he didn't write more. They also set the stage for all other mystery writers who followed, with the hard-boiled investigator, the wise-cracking, the "dame" and of course, many types of villans. This book was a real "find" for my library and republished 1965 as the whole set of novels.

DASHIELL HAMMETT--5/27/1894 to 1/10/61 (66).

Created the CONTINENTIAL OP..SAM SPADE & NICK
and NORA CHARLES. Was imprisoned and black listed.
Politically active,drank/smoked a lot and had TB.
Died of lung cancer.

ALL the people in his stories were based on people
he knew. HARDBOILED FICTION WRITER.

* SAM SPADE-cold,detached,determined, a tarnished
idealist, has seen it all. A great detective.

*NICK and NORA CHARLES--RICH, a married couple who
solves murders. Funny.

+THE RED HARVEST 1929
Donald Willsson is murdered,a labor dispute.a town
that needs cleaned up and violent events.

+THE DAIN CURSE 1929
a curse on the Dain family, robbery, morphine, murder.

+THE MALTESE FALCON 1930
(some say the GREATEST novel ever written) MY FAVORITE!
Brigid O hires Sam to protect her partner Thurshy. A jewel
encrusted Falcon statue. You can't help but picture Mr. Bogart.

+THE GLASS KEY
a re-election campaign, NED B. and PAUL MADVIG. Gang wars,
racketeering.

+THE THIN MAN 1934
Nick and Nora Charles--a delightful couple.Their friend Clyde Wynant
is missing later found dead. ASTA.

ALL A MUST READ. YOU HAVE TO READ HAMMETT. THEY ARE THE BEST
BOOKS OUT THERE !

I liked this book so much I accidently ordered it and I already
have it. Now I have to find some one to give it too.

Being an old movie buff. I wanted to read the books that the movies such as The Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man were based on. The book was in great condition. I'm enjoying reading the books.
