This Richie Havens Cd is a music Cd I listen to once in a while. Or to put it another way "Now and Then".
To put it in more simple terms. This is not one of Mr. Havens best efforts. It tends to lack the energy of his earlier recordings. Such as {Stonehenge and Cuts To The Chase} among others.
Richie Havens is a very soulful vocalist. He is also a decent acoustic guitarist. But his real instrument is his voice. So distinctive and resonant. A soulful blues singer in the true sense. There is also a hint of the Gospel in his voice.
As talented as Richie is, he cannot take all the credit. A big part of his success needs to go to the fine musicians he surrounds himself with. He records with the best of the best. The finest musicians avaliable.
He has a comfortable style that fits with either a large orchestra or small combo. Pick up a copy of his "Simple Things" recording. It is Full of Orchestration.
Some of the better tunes on his "Now" Cd are:
"Angel", "You Are The One", "Afterall These Years", "Your My Tommorow". His version of "Time After Time" is also worth mentioning.
Final thought:
This is not one of his best "but" still worthy of a now and then listening schedule. Once in a while. Now And Then. Take a listen and enjoy his soulful music.
Please take note:
My biggest complaint with this Cd is Richie's choice to use electronic Drum sounds instead of a real Acoustic Drum Kit with a real drummer. Nearly all the tracks use electronically produced drum sounds. Nothing can take the place of the real thing.
A real Drummer would have taken this to the next level. A 4 or 5 star rating.
