Would I have known?,
By Chris (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked in Death (Mass Market Paperback)
While reading this book, I tried to compare the prose of J.D. Robb and Nora Roberts. There are differences -more swearing by Robb, for one- but the similarities stand out when the characters get into their routine "I want to jump his/her bones" thoughts/emotions. As for the story, despite a decent ending, I wasn't that enthralled by it. The characters of Eve and Roarke, however, made up for it; their interaction and backgrounds were intriguing.

Decent read but not worth 5 stars,
This review is from: Naked in Death (Mass Market Paperback)
I understand that most of these 5 star reviews are coming from loyal Nora Roberts fans so if you are a loyal fan, you might want to read those instead of this one. This review is coming from someone who has read Nora but isn't a die hard fan, so maybe my expectations were a little off.The plot was predictable in points which was slightly disappointing. For example: I had the 'surprise' killer figured out way before the main character did. One thing that annoyed me was that one of the murder victims was a 'licensed companion' who was only prostituting herself until she got a publishing contract and realized her ambition to be a writer. <insert eyeroll here> I shouldn't hold this against Roberts, I suppose, because many many writers have characters be writers by profession. I just hate it. It's not at all unique or amusing. It's so overdone that it's cliche. Dallas was pretty archetypal as the female detective who is irresistably sexy yet wears mannish clothes and has no sense of style. For a supposedly independent woman, she lets Roarke push her around and insert himself into her life quite rapidly. Roarke was more interesting to me. Roberts hints at his background but leaves enough loose threads to make me wonder where she's going with this character in the rest of the series. The romance between Dallas and Roarke didn't seem forced, given they met each other during the course of the murder investigation, and the sex between them was smokin hot. All in all, this was an entertaining one-day read. The mystery was tight enough. The romance was hot enough. And the science fiction, while not technically accurate and more like 'social science fiction', was basically entertaining enough as well. Three stars.

A must have for any J.D. Robb fan!,
By Stephanie Keobel "Steph" (Montreal, QC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked in Death (Mass Market Paperback)
Now I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Nora Robert's, I don't much care for romance personally. I do however LOVE the in death series! I was given several in the middle of the series, which led to my in death addiction. I finally got my hands on the book that started it all!Exceptionally well written, a nice touch of romance, scandalous sex and page turning drama. Makes you want more and more! The in death series gives a very interesting perspective into what the world very well could be like in 2050 and beyond. Creative and forward thinking without being tacky and too over the top, the in death series has whetted my appetite for more!
