4.0 out of 5 stars Underated gem from Al, Aug 2 2005

This album had mixed reviews on its release. One reviewer wrote that Al's version of As The Years Go Passing By ruined one of his favourite blues songs. Silly man! It is a fantastic version. The album as a whole has a nice feel to it and it flows well. The opening track is great altho maybe Al should have redone the vocals. Jolie is a fabulous pop song. Great melody, great vocals, great playing. It is one of Al's best song and should have been a big hit. Peacock Lady has the feel of laying on a Carribean beach with palm trees swaying. It is one of the highlights of the album. John Prine's Sam Stone is also worth mentioning. Great production on it. Al has always known how to get a BIG sound and here he does not disappoint. The organ at the start of Where Were You is staggering. It will blow you away. This is not Al's best album but it is really worth buying. You won't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid album, but beware, May 2 2007

I ordered this album here recently, and it is a Japanese import, but it's not in a digipak miniature sleeve, and I don't know when this version was released. It is not state of the art remastering; it sounds a bit thin and high-end heavy. It's a standard jewel case with a simple insert that reproduces the original LP cover. A separate insert is a plain white paper folded to a 5X5 that has the lyrics printed in Japanese and English. Looks pretty cheesy but I'm glad to have it. Just beware if you get this version you will probably be disappointed. At this price, I'm not going to reorder it, and I am keeping what I have. Naked Songs is very hard to find on LP, so I'm just going to be satisfied.

As far as the music goes, Al never put out a duffer. There's some selections here that rank among his best. It's probably his weakest solo LP, but still worth hearing.
