I've been more excited about this game than I have been about Tekken Hybrid.
If you're a Tekken fan like me, you've already heard a few things: This game runs at a full 60fps in 3D, and it comes with a movie, Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D. I chose this version over Tekken Hybrid for the PS3, which also comes with the movie.
All of the gameplay that you've come to expect from Tekken is here. You've got 40 some characters with all of the moves of Tekken 6. New are the touch screen controls. You can assign move sequences to the touch screen individually for each of the characters. It makes for easy execution of moves or serves as a learning tool for experimenting with combos.
Gone are the story modes of past games. Gone is also the costume customizaton besides changing the colors of costumes (as far as I know). So you only have a few modes left. They feel sparse. It's the usual sequence of battles but without even a final boss fight like Jinpachi or Azazel. Then the credits roll.
This game really does appear to run at 60fps in 3D mode! I also own Dead or Alive Dimensions, which drops to 30fps in 3D, but Tekken remains at full fluidity in 3D. The only time I've noticed the framerate drop is during Lili's victory scene where the camera gets really close to her and she says "Sebastian, they say they're leaving already". The game looks great in 3D, especially in well lit areas. You'll notice a lot of the old backgrounds along with a few new ones.
I have not played the game online or on local VS, but I did go online to see another person host a fight room. I usually play offline anyways. You can unlock and collect some 700 3D picture cards as well. You can have the game trade cards with other players automatically, but I have not tried it out for myself.
So the story modes are gone, but you have to consider that this game cartrige includes a full 3D movie! I'm very happy with the movie. Even as a fan I did not see this movie in select theaters in 3D. I didn't feel like getting Tekken Hybrid for the movie either. But the thought of having all of this on the 3DS sold me. The visuals and the action are great. The story involves less than a dozen of the characters in the usual fight for control over the Devil Gene, with a few twists. Fun stuff.
So this sums it up:
- Fewer play modes, less customization.
- Full 60fps in 3D.
- Online play, local VS, 700 tradable 3D picture cards.
- Full 3D movie.
As a fan I am happy with my purchase. It'll hold me over until Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I got the only copy from a local game store on February 14th. Wait, is it Valentine's Day?! What's that?! I say it's Tekken 3D Prime Edition Day!

I'm big into fighting games, and part of that is because I enjoy their different game modes from STORY MODE all the way down to the a Gallery Mode if it exist. Unfortunately on this version of TAKEN, the developers have STRIPPED DOWN the game so much that I feel cheated on this purchased.
NO STORY MODE, NO Character Customization, NO FINAL BOSS, and NO ENDING CGI/MOVIES to give you a reason why to make it to the end??? Yeah this version is certainly not that great!
The game is fun to play and people would argue that fighting games they come down to just the gameplay...BUT NOT FOR ME...Fighting games are usually short on gameplay value as it is, nevermind taking even more from it.
It's hard for me to recommend this title for what it is...yeah it does come with a 3D movie, but that movie is not part of the gameplay it's just an extra.

If you're a fan of fighting games and like to play them on the go (like me) then it's a great time to own a Nintendo 3DS. On top of Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and Dead or Alive Dimensions, the 3DS just saw the release of Tekken 3D Prime Edition. From the time I have spent so far on Tekken 3D Prime Edition, I am very impressed. The gameplay perfectly matches the various console and arcade versions of the Tekken series. The graphics are also some of the best seen on the 3DS so far (Runs at 60fps, even in 3D mode) and can hold their own against the other games in the Tekken series (Include Tekken 5 and Tekken 6). On the down side there is not much content beyond straight arcade fighting, which might turn some people off. However, to make up for lack of content, there is a full feature 3D Tekken movie included on the game cart (I have not have seen the 3D Tekken movie include with the game yet, so I will not be reviewing it here). In conclusion if you are looking for prime time Tekken arcade action on the go, Then Tekken 3D Prime Edition is a match made in heaven.
