Book Description

Mar 22 2005 Camp Confidential (Book 1)
Summer camp means lots of things: new friends, roommates, bug bites, bathroom duty...But it's also a chance to be on your own and to reinvent yourself. A shy girl can become the belle of the ball, and ajock might find new competition. Natalie, Jenna, Grace, and Alex have all found themselves at Camp Lakeview for different reasons. And each is keeping a secret. But if everyone is hiding something, how will they ever become friends?
Natalie Goode is a city girl-way more interested in fresh sushi than fresh air. So she's bummed when her mother ships her off to "Camp Lake-puke" to broaden her horizons. But before long, Natalie notices there are some pretty cool girls are camp (and even some cute boys, too). If she can loosen up, she might even enjoy herself-unless the secret she's been keeping gets in her way...

Product Description

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6–Natalie Goode, 11, is a true city girl who loves all the wonderful amenities of her life in New York City. Imagine her trauma when her mother tells her that she is going to spend eight weeks at a camp in Pennsylvania. When she arrives, things are worse than she imagined. Her bunk is run-down, the showers are gross, and she finds a spider in the toilet. Fortunately, her bunkmates come from different places and Natalie begins to appreciate their unique talents and personalities. When she meets Simon, a cute fellow camper, things definitely begin to improve. However, complications arise when Natalie's father makes a surprise visit, for she hasn't told anyone that her dad is Tad Maxwell, the famous action-movie star. Soon, Natalie must face her new friends and deal with the fact that she hasn't been truthful. The first book in the series is a satisfying read. The subject matter and the characters are nothing new but fans of series books about girls will enjoy it.–Linda Zeilstra Sawyer, Skokie Public Library, IL

About the Author

Melissa J. Morgan started going to sleep away camp when she was eight years old and didn't stop until her first job after grad school refused her request for eight weeks of summer vacation. She's since quit that job to become a full-time author. The only reason she didn't go back to camp is that her husband refused to join her. Melissa lives in New York with him and Bugle, their Chocolate Lab.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Light-Read! Jun 29 2006
By TybaltTino - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book a while back when I was horribly sick and really in the mood for a cute little book that would make me smile. And yes, I did get just what I wanted.

Natalie cringes at the thought of going to camp this summer- she wants to board the next plane home and forget this even happened. And when she gets there, for a while, she's even more dismayed at the thought of actually staying at the camp for very long. She wants her friends and her air-conditioned house. But when she actually lets herself have fun and warm up to her cabin-mates, she finds that camp is probably the most fun she's ever had. She meets some great girls and their friendships are just what she needs to get through her camp experience. Natalie discovers herself along the way, and in the end, doesn't want to leave.

This book was a real page-turner, although I can't say I was ready to pounce on the sequel. I enjoyed it though, and would recommend it to anyone in the mood for a cute book that will make you smile and maybe even laugh out loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Book Jun 20 2006
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Natalie goes to camp thinking that nothing could be worse than Camp Lake-Puke. The floor has splinters, there was spiders on the toilet seat, and the food was horrible. That was nothing that could prepare Natalie for what was in her footsteps. Her dad, Tad Maxwell one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, shows up at her camp. Things started changing, people started acting weird around her and some even acted as if they were best buds for centuries. Will things ever go back to normal at Camp Lake-Puke, or will Natalie Goode's life be miserable for the rest of the summer?
