My recent purchase of the Moshi Moshi Retro POP Handset was great. The phone is amazing, but it immediately started to crackle when the cord moved. This is not uncommon with phones of any kind, but my attempt to return the product has been long, and cumbersome to say the least. On Dec. 9 I sent a complaint to and have not received a reply (it is now Dec. 19), despite it stating I had to return the product by Dec. 12.

Excellent product. Only thing that would make it better would be a volume control on handset. This is a minor point however. Callers say that my sound is better on this handset than from my iPhone directly. Plan to give theses as gifts for Xmas.

A great design which, despite the claims, is not compatible with any BBerry phone even those with 3.5mm jack.

Product as shipped only works with iPhone per manufacturer site. An additional adaptor is required for all BBerry phones which can add as much as $40Cdn. Too bad this is not clearly indicated without a visit to the manufacturer's site.

Back to the future! June 11 2010

I initially bought my Moshi Moshi handset as a novelty, but I'm shocked how useful it's turned out to be. Like everyone in their 30s or older, I grew up using phones with handsets just like this one. I had forgotten how comfortable they were to use, however. This thing can be cradled between shoulder and chin, just like a real phone, and it doesn't get hot like cellphones do. Sound quality is better than other wired (and wireless) headsets I've used--I often have difficulty understanding people on my phone, due to Sprint's highly compressed signal, but so far have had no problems understanding callers when using the Moshi Moshi handset. Highly recommended.

(I'm using this product with an HTC phone and an adapter which was provided by NativeUnion for free after I emailed them and requested an adapter for my phone--so it's not just for ipod users!)

The mystery of the genuine or fake Native Union phone Nov. 29 2012

I bought the black metallic version of this POP phone via this link on Amazon. On the description page it lists 'Native Union Ltd.' as the seller, however on checkout it says 'Insane In the Brain -- The BEST DEALS on the Web! Storefront'. I also noticed that on selecting the black metallic phone/picture on this page, it now comes up with another seller, which, incidentally, also has changed twice since I wrote this review. As far as I understand it, on the inside of the genuine Native Union phones there is a stamped 'CE mark', it apparently also comes with a manual with an option to register the 'phone', this particular product came without all this. On reading more on the Native union website, it seems to me the particular phone I was sent is likely to be a counterfeit product, despite it saying Native Union on the box. It might be that the seller, Insane in the brain, or other amazon resellers, are not aware of this being a counterfeit product, and it would behoove Amazon to make clearer on their listings if this is sold directly by Amazon, as a genuine product, or it is is sold by a reseller and therefore might not be a genuine product, and update those seller pages or remove them from this particular sales page, which as far as I understand it, is advertising the genuine phone, and monitor this. I also think that the other colors, the first few of the ones you can select in the 'pictures' could well be the genuine product, and that therefore there are so many contradictory reviews on the review page for this particular phone. I think the genuine Native union phone is probably a fabulous product, will post more on this once I receive 'the real thing'. If it turns out that what I bought via Amazon is not a counterfeit product, I will remove or update this review. I am returning this to Amazon and will buy one directly via Native Union, who, according to their customer service website, will give a discount for me posting the review below:

Do not buy from this seller - I have received a Fake Moshi Moshi POP phone from them - It does not work and there is no customer service to help - I have wasted my money - Native Union has kindly given me a discount on a genuine product which works perfectly - Buy directly from to guarantee you get the same high quality product.

This is not a genuine Native Union Moshi Moshi POP Phone April 3 2012

I ordered this product and another Native Union Moshi Moshi POP Phone at the same time. When this one came, it was the GO SHUKI brand. The external packaging was slightly different than the genuine Native Union, and even had some interesting Engrish. Inside, the internal packaging was different and it did not include the user manual or the stickers that the Native Union did. I wanted a geniune Native Union and I purposely did not order any of the other knock-offs, even paying more to ensure that I got a genuine product.

Interestly, this GO SHUKI had volume controls on the handset, and the Native Union does not have volume controls. The handset of the GO SHUKI is slightly larger and is significantly lighter. The Native Union logo is missing. Another difference is that I can hear my self talk with the GO SHUKI and not with the Native Union.

Also the Native Union phone has the CE logo (means it is lead-free) and is RoHS compliant (another lead standard). This GO SHUKI is not.

It seems to work, but I feel that this was a bait and switch. I am really disappointed that I did not get what I paid for.

Excellent reception, fun (and yes, practical) Aug. 19 2010

My initial reaction when I saw the Moshi Moshi handset was that is was a cool novelty that I wanted to get a few laughs from friends. But as I used it on my iPhone 4, I noticed an immediate improvement in reception and call/voice quality. People I spoke with also commented that my voice was much clearer compared with my Bluetooth headset or even when I'm not using any headset at all.

I get a lot of calls on my cell when at my desk. I never used my Bluetooth headset when not "out and about," and now leave my iPhone docked to the charger/radio/stereo unit with the Moshi Moshi handset plugged in. It's wonderful to have a comfortable "old-fashioned" headset again. I guess technology has done many things but it my opinion it hasn't yet replaced it.

The handset is of seemingly simple yet durable plastic construction. There is a single button under the receiver (in the center) that lets you answer calls and also hang-up.

Incidentally, the phrase "moshi moshi" is Japanese and is how most Japanese answer the telephone. I lived in Tokyo for 7 years and thought that was a very cute and clever name for the product. Two thumbs way up from me!

Great Quality, Useful and Fun June 8 2010

First of all I want to comment on the packaging - excellent. The box it comes in is just fantastic. These days stuff is packaged with the bare minimum and both the quality and design of the box is first class.

As for the handset - the feel is just perfect. I love that it's not slick like the original phone handsets. The finish on it is just right - looks good and feels good in your hand. The quality is also excellent. I had my doubts as to the quality of the audio but I love it. I do wish it had a volume control on it but I understand not all phones would support it. Most of the time I need to turn down the volume on the phone all the way down - the handset amplifies the audio quite a bit. I mostly use it on my phone but I did try my iPad using Whistle and it works just great.

I normally keep it hooked up to my cel phone and just lay it across my pouch (which is on my belt). I get a lot of stares and questions. I tell people it's a 'conversation piece' (LOL).

I love odd and out of the ordinary gadgets and this sure fits the bill. Thanks for making such a great product - good quality and fun.

BTW, I emailed them and told them I had an iPad and within a week or two they mailed me the correct adapter at no charge. This company really takes care of it's customers which in my opinion is just as important as the product.

Thank you.... John
