I'm sorry if this will be a long review, but trust me, it's worth it. I was searching for a product that would help me with vaginal dryness/tearing/bleeding, and came across this product. Now I have to add in that I have suspected that I have had a hormonal imbalance for quite some time, makes sense, as I have had multiple pelvic surgeries over my lifetime, including losing one ovary, I'd bet good money the other one doesn't work well either. I mentioned it to my doctor, asking for testing. In fact, I asked two separate GYN docs, two Internal Medicine docs and one PA. Not a single one of them took me seriously enough to test me, that's how bad healthcare is for women, but I digress. When I heard that this cream treats more of the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance, well, I had to try it. Before I get into what worked and what didn't, let me say that I gave it maybe 3 weeks, and when I didn't see a whole lot of difference (yet) I went ahead and got their progesterone cream as well. So my review will be from using both products together.
First, the vaginal dryness. I was tearing every single time I had sex. Every time. Tore and bled and it took me a good week or more to heal. I was examined by two different GYN docs, both said the tissue looked healthy, it couldn't be atrophy, and that I needed "better lube." Ladies, I have tried everything under the sun, lube wise, including organic coconut oil and jojoba oil. That's not it. I had one idiot GYN tell me the tearing was just "skin tags" in the area that had to be removed. OMG, the pain with that procedure, and yet, didn't fix it. I was so frustrated. So I got this cream. And did what it said. Now it does recommend 7-10 days for this issue. After 10 days, I did see an improvement. The tear was smaller and didn't bleed as bad. But I was bound and determined to make this work so I stuck with it. It took maybe 3 weeks, 4 at the most, before the tearing and irritation was gone. Yup, GONE. No more pain for me. I can't say this saved my marriage, because I have the most patient, loving husband on the planet, he had no plans to leave me for this reason (and if some guy will leave you over this, then ladies, you are truly better off without him. Good riddance, find a good man to love you no matter what, for better or worse, sickness and health). Try it for the dryness/atrophy. And if it doesn't work in 10 days, don't give up, it may just take you a little bit longer than others. That's okay. As long as it works. And in the meantime, I got a little tip from a Clear Passage therapist for the tears: get yourself some Desitin. Works like a charm, it will heal you in a couple days and will provide a barrier when urinating. In my research of vaginal atrophy, women complain of yeast like infection symptoms: itching, burning, etc., as well as chronic symptoms of bladder infections, it's all the same issue for us. All the docs will tell you is to wipe front to back (duh, right?), tell you to switch to non scented laundry detergent, wear cotton panties, don't use soap, on and on. Tried it all, it's BS, they have no clue what's going on so they make inane suggestions and tell you it's all in your head. It's not. Get some of this cream, it will help. And stick with it. Oh, and for extra added measure, when I applied the cream vaginally (yes, to the outer vagina and a bit internally, pretend you are wiping or applying an external vulvar cream, same difference, it isn't an exact science so don't worry too much about application there) I massaged it into the area where I always tore (6:00 for me). Doing that few second massage seemed to bump up the healing time for me.
On to the other symptoms: since taking this, my hot flashes are almost non-existent. I'm serious. There are moments I start to get a bit warm, kick off the covers, and...nothing. No sweats. No suffocating feeling. No flash at all. If I do get anything, it's very minor and only lasts maybe less than a minute. It works. Sleeping: yes, using both creams, in a few weeks I was sleeping a LOT better. I used to struggle to fall asleep, just when I did, like clockwork, I'd wake up within an hour, out of a dead sleep, like I was jolted awake. Heart racing, sometimes shaking, and couldn't go back to sleep. I don't do that anymore. Do I sometimes wake in the night? Sure, don't we all? But not like I used to, and i can usually go right back to sleep. These creams are phenomenal.
As far as a face cream, etc., I can't say it has done much for me in that respect. I have terminal dark circles, it's done nothing for that. It may work for you, give it a try. Smoky Mountain Naturals state on their website that they are working on a face cream with the Estriol, I'm hoping to try it when it comes out. I did try it for dark spots on my hands and face, nothing there either. It says to use 1/4 teaspoon, and the reviews are correct: there is a LOT of product in 1/4 tsp. I have done almost a body thing with it: all over my face, wrists and hands, some on either my stomach or thighs, a dab on the ankles, and still have plenty for the vaginal area. If you are unsure of how much to use, Smoky Mountain Naturals does sell a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon on their site for a buck, go buy one, it helped me so I didn't have to guess.
It seems like it has helped with my mental fogginess, fatigue and energy, either that or it's because I'm sleeping better. Not a miracle cure for me, but I do suffer from Adhesion Related Disorder that I am having treatment for, so I am not the perfect patient to gauge that. But it is an improvement. Mood too, I believe (again, with the progesterone cream too).
I didn't notice any difference in facial hair, sorry.
This cream has a nice texture, very light smell, a little goes a long way and it is a miracle cream. Will I buy it again? You bet your sweet bippy I will. I already have, and I'm gearing up to buy more. Ladies, don't hesitate, and don't fret, this product is amazing. Try it. But don't judge hastily until you've used it at least a month, maybe two, for full benefits, but for the vaginal area, give that at least 3-4 weeks, and use Desitin in the interim. This stuff is amazing. You owe it to yourself to at least try it, and find some relief.
UPDATE: I am sad to report that the creams stopped working. Hot flashes came back, and it wasn't doing what it had before for my vaginal tearing. My therapist suggested that I may need to have a doctor adjust my dose of the creams, however, I wasn't working with a doctor on this (I can't find one that will prescribe bio identical hormones for me.) So if it stops working for you, checking with a holistic type doctor may be the answer.
HOWEVER: If you take these creams, and they aren't helping with the vaginal tearing, do yourself a favor: Read up on pelvic floor physical therapy. What most doctors don't know (and would probably never tell you if they did) is that many women have their vaginal/pelvic floor muscles in perpetual spasm, and that can be a HUGE part of the tearing/bleeding. Where does it come from? Many sources: having children, repeated pelvic surgeries, any kind of trauma to the area (sexual trauma is one big one). But it can be fixed. If you can get a doctor to prescribe pelvic floor therapy, with an expert in the field, they work to help those muscles release the spasm, then work to strengthen the muscles again. No, Kegels won't do it, in fact, Kegels will make the problem worse. (Funny, that's just what every doctor prescribes for any female problem: Kegels. Go figure.) Spasm in that area can also cause incontinence. How many women accept that they're "getting older" as a reason for leaking urine? Nope. Not it. All of this works together to create the problems that we women face. There is hope. And help. Don't give up, ladies. Don't just take this as a sign of age and quit trying. There are answers for us.
Anyhow, these creams are good, and I hope they keep working for you. As for me, I'm giving therapy a try (and it is working), and I may go back on the creams to see if that helps with hormonal imbalances.
