Product Description

From Amazon.com

Hayao Miyazaki gained widespread attention in Japan for his complex ecological manga series, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1982), which he adapted for the screen two years later. One thousand years after a war devastated much of the Earth, humanity clings to existence at the fringes of a vast, polluted forest inhabited by monstrous insects. Only Nausicaä, the princess of the tiny realm of the Valley of the Wind, grasps the environmental significance of the forest. She sees beyond petty wars and national rivalries to the only viable future for the planet. In Nausicaä, Miyazaki began to explore elements he would develop more fully in his later films: daring, compassionate heroines; exciting flying sequences; colorful side characters; strong interpersonal relationships; and a call for an ecologically sustainable way of life. Nausicaä prefigures Sheeta in Castle in the Sky and Chihiro in Spirited Away, just as the rough and ready Asbel anticipates Pazu in Castle in the Sky and Ashitaka in Princess Mononoke. For years, Nausicaä was available in the United States only as the badly re-edited Warriors of the Wind. The new English dub from Disney presents the film in its entirety, with strong vocal performances by Uma Thurman, Patrick Stewart, Alison Lohman, and Edward James Olmos. (Rated PG: violence, frightening imagery) --Charles Solomon

Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is truly amazing! Jun 14 2005
Format:DVD
Wow! I've finally got to see the uncut version of Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, the very first masterpiece by the great Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli! Sore wa Sugoi Desu Yo! (Japanese: It's so awesome and amazing!)

Everything is so awesome; the soundtrack, the voicework, the story, the action scenes, the art work, and every thing else is so perfect, and well done too. Everything has been refined to the state-of-the-art level, which is what Studio Ghibli has been famous for. What's more, the message for peace, perseverance and prosperity, along with harmony and enviornmental protection and balance, have really touched deeply in my heart right from the start.

Overall, I'd like to say "Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu" to the great Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli for their great masterpiece, and shall give them 5 out of 5 stars for outstanding performance!

I had this movie in DVD format... with no french language on it and I decided to upgrade it to BLu-Ray, especially because the studio decided to put the French language track on the blu-ray. Well I was not disspointed! The movie is magnificient and it's a must own for all the Miyasaki-Ghibli fans!

My top favorite Miyazaki film Jan 6 2010
By Frances L. Arsenault TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
It was very hard to choose my top Miyazaki film, but I choose Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds. At first, I had never seen the film, until I had bought the Disney 2-Disc DVD of the film. I thought the dub-casting was excellent, with Alison Lohman as Nausicaa; Shia LaBeouf as Asbel; Patrick Stewart as Lord Yupa, and Uma Thurman as Kushana.

The film is based on a manga made by Miyazaki himself. Set in the year 2984, a thousand years in the future, when global war had incinerate the Earth. The Earth has become an unrecognizable place. Large parts of the world have been swallowed up by forests of poisonous fungi. The remaining humans live near the fungus and it's monstrous insectoid inhabitants, trying to prevent it's spread. One of the human kingdoms, the peaceful Valley of Wind, loves its gentle Princess Nausicaä and her father the king, but their peace is about to be broken, as they are swallowed up in the machinations of their larger, warmongering neighbours. However, Nausicaä has hidden potential, and may yet change the fate of the world.

It's truly Miyazaki's epic masterpiece, and also a good film to show us the seriousness of global war and our environment.

A true classic! A must in any serious animation collection!
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is a true classic of animation. It had the same importance to Studio Ghibli that Snow White had to Disney. Read more

Plenty of action, good story, strong cast.
This is definitely one of the better Miyazaki films I've seen. It has just enough action to keep it interesting but not so much as to make it unfriendly to the family. Read more

The most powerfully simple of Miyazaki's films
Nausicaa is the best Hayao Miyazaki film in my opinion, because it uses a simple premise to powerful effect - ruin the earth and you will suffer for it. Read more
