Clement's interpretive work on Isaiah 1-39 remains a classic even today. His commentary may be approached by both the scholar and laymen seeking a exegeical, linguistic and textual understanding of Isaiah. While being careful to outline difficult sections of the text Clements is distinctive in his ability to avoid the use of conjectural emendation to solve these issues. Rather, Clements seeks throughout to maintain that inherit tensions within the text may be understood in light of a 'Zion Tradition'.
