this game is awesome. i had so much fun. takes me back to the days of NFS hot pursuit. the only complaint is i cant play split sceen but otherwise this game is fun. when i get pissed at black ops i just pop this game in and race. its fun as heck and i just love driving around the wide selection of cars. plus it has a good soundtrack which is always a bonus. i might just be happy because this wasn't as bad NFS pro street. this is some the most fun ive had in time. i recommend buying it unless ur looking to GT5. in that case ur looking for a simulator not a racing game. theres a difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars NFS Hot Pursuit is Back! Nov 21 2010
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Greatest Hits
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
It's been a long time coming but it has finally returned; the game goes back to it's PC roots.
For those of you who remember Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2... it's been awhile.
There are only two paths to take in this game; either the Street Racer or the Cop. You can start any "career" path first or simultaneously go back and forth. The choice is up to you.

The City of Seacrest is pretty big and is mainly freeway type roads. In previous incarnations of the game the racer tended to be slightly less powerful, the case remains the same. However, this time around you have weapons of your own to fight back. As either the Racer or Cop the weapons aren't available right away and you need to earn them. The game also features a freeroam mode as well as online play. Not sure why they (Criterion and EA) decided to release a limited edition version when I can't even locate a regular version. But one does get a code that once activated unlocks some cars to use right away.
Other than that there's nothing else really special, the dvd case is the standard clear case. When you open the case you see a map of the city which I find nice, usually they leave that space blank. Outside of the game play the game keeps track of all videos that you have unlocked and lets you watch them at your leisure; you can also take photos form your garage or while in game.

So... this game gets a 5 out of 5 for gameplay. For a person who loves racing there's plenty of replay value, especially trying to beat your own records or those of your friends. And best of all there is no cheesy storyline to watch.
As for the "goods"... I give it a 2.5 out of 5. You don't get much in extras (if anything).
And now for the knock downs; you can't change the playlist for the music, everything plays in order or can be shuffled. Driving is not exactly arcade style but far from simulation. It's caught in between and not one or the other. Some players may not like this depending on previous games played. And lastly, for a limited edition it really gave us little in extra value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better Dec 26 2010

The game overall is your typical racing game. The single player experience however is nothing too exciting. Being an owner of the past need for speed games (underground to carbon), i found this game needed to improve in several aspects. This game was more burnout than need for speed. Being the police is essentially the takedowns from burnout, attempting to takeout your opponents. Its quite fun and challenging sometimes, but nonetheless gets repetitive with time. Races are just random and the objective is pretty straightforward in each, either come in 1st - 3rd or get to the finish in a certain time.

The selection of cars is good, only thing is if your thinking about modding your car and "supin" it up this is no where to be seen, only thing that can be changed is the paint job. As well, only select cars are available for use in certain races, so you cant look to use a super upgraded 370z to go up against a stock Lambo.

Free roam is pointless, randomly driving a car around a world that has no races to select from a map or objectives to obtain. I feel they shouldve gone back to NFS: Most Wanted style, where you could drive around the cities looking for races. The fact that your randomly placed in races means shortcuts are harder to find.

Soundtracks CAN be changed as a pose to the other reviews, probably just depends on the platform. The ps3 allows the addition of soundtracks from your music library, but it does somewhat overlap with the games voiceovers and sfx of the game.

Overall the game is good, however for 70 dollars, i would probably stave off until it drops to around 40 or 50 bucks before buying, unless you like a straight get in a race or takedown matchup and similar online gameplay.
