At the time of this review, under Technical Details, it says: "Type: USB 2.0 A male to A female retractable cable".
When I hooked it up I got the pop-up saying my device would perform faster if I hooked it up to a USB 2.0 port. It wasn't the port, it was this extension that doesn't support USB 2.0 . I tried copying a file over to see if it would perform just as fast, but it didn't. I am using Windows 7 on an new Core i5 machine.
The cord itself is about 2.3 feet long (not including the connectors at the ends).
Right now you can buy an Apricorn Hi Speed USB 2.0 Extension Cable - Black - 1Meter/3 Feet (A1M-USB2-EXTENSION) on Amazon for under a buck with free shipping.
If you want retractable, then you may be better off going name brand at triple the price. :(
