Amazing. July 26 2010
By Alan R - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Lantlos gets much less recognition than Neige's more well known project Alcest, but it's a shame considering the quality of the music here. Lantlos is comprised of Neige and Herbst and is very much in the same vein of music as Alcest, Les Discrets, Falls of Rauros, Agalloch, Amesoeurs, Negura Bunget, etc. I will be bold and say THIS is Neige's best project. This CD is very similar to Lantlos's first CD, but may be just slightly less harsh. Don't let this be a turnoff, it still holds a very real black metal element. Overall the full listening experience is similar to their first cd, from track 1 till the end, you never get tired of it and you'll feel like you're in another universe throughout. It's magical and a MUST buy for anyone who got their first CD, likes any of the other bands I listed above, or is just a fan of black metal in general.

Ethereal black metal at the prime March 2 2011
By wippernaut - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is one of the best subgenres of metal & black metal from the past decade. Lantlos is two man band, which features Niege on vocals (who is the main man from Alcest, which is one of the first post/shoegaze influnced black metal bands), and Markus Siegenhor, who is the guitarist, bassist, drummer and lyric writer. Lantlos fits in with the other main French black metal shoegaze artists such as Alcest and Les Discrets, though Lantlos is the most "black metal" influenced out of them. There is much shoegaze bliss, but pleanty of straight up melancholy black metal. Niege's black metal vocals are so sick on .Neon, very strong and emotional. And Markus's guitar work is totally top notch on both the black metal and shoegaze parts of the songs. Not to mention .Neon progresses very well, hence the post-rock/metal influence too. Even if your not a really big fan of much shoegaze/post influnced metal, .Neon is a very unique and awesome black metal album, and a great way to start out a new decade for metal.

One of my top purchases this year Nov. 9 2011

Since my recent discovery of Alcest, I have become somewhat of a Neige fanboy, researching every project he has been involved in. I actually wasn't too excited about buying this album after listening to a few songs, but I figured what the heck and bought it anyway. Glad I did, because it has turned out to be the best non-Alcest Neige album I have found so far and one of my top purchases of 2011. It is definitely much more on the black metal end of the spectrum than Alcest, but I'd say it fuses post-rock with black metal rather than shoegaze, and blends in quite a bit of jazzy and even progressive influences. Blastbeats and shrilling cries are prominent, and pierce through the surface of the warmer, bass-and-drum arrangements and melodic clean riffing just at the perfect times. By the way, the drumming on this album is top-notch.

I for one don't really listen to that much "true" black metal. The constant blastbeats and raw, strident feel honestly gets boring (shhhh, don't tell my metalhead friends I said that). I usually need at least a little variety and melody in order to be an interest to me. I think Lantlos takes just the right amount of inspiration from black metal and spins it into their own creation. They create the perfect combination of several genres, without overdoing it and remaining true to themselves. The songs flow seamlessly from soft to heavy parts, and everything in between.

My favorite track has got to be "Coma," the main riff and its corresponding drumming is just magnificent. "These Nights Were Ours" is probably my second pick, starting with a calm, clean intro and burgeoning into a hellstorm you never want to subside.

It looks like Neige is going to be the next Dan Swano, or Garm, or , and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

This album represents one of the best Post-Blackmetal/Shoegaze works ever composed; I will never tire of this band. It is sonically gripping and emotionally gritting.

I listen to this album nearly every day. It never gets old; it never stops being beautiful. If you like black metal or any of Neige's other projects, this is a MUST HAVE. I'd say this is easily his best work.
