Book Description

May 1 2012 A Wilson Mystery

Following the first three installments in the mafia enforcer’s adventures, this whodunit finds Wilson taking up with his old partner, Ruby. The pair set out to take down an armored car carrying a huge payday, but there’s one problem—Ruby’s kid Rick is the one who scouted the job, and he wants in on the deal. Despite his misgivings about Rick, Wilson signs on with the condition that he runs the job. The heist is a success, but the antihero soon finds himself at the heart of a double cross, learning the hard way that honor among thieves is a myth. Packed with suspense and surprising twists, this novel adds yet another ruthless chapter to the celebrated Wilson Mystery series.

Review

"[Knowles] is a good atmospheric writer, and he has the lingo down."  —Globe and Mail

"A daring robbery leads to plenty of bloodshed in Knowles's hard-hitting fourth caper. . . . Wilson can take his place alongside Richard Stark's Parker as a ruthlessly efficient bad guy with an ingenious ability to escape tricky situations." —Publisher's Weekly (March 12, 2012)

4.0 out of 5 stars A terrific, hard-as-nails crime novel Jun 8 2012
Format:Hardcover
If you miss Richard Stark's Parker or Andrew Vachss's Burke, this book is for you. Knowles' fourth novel about career criminal Wilson is a great, super-hard novel. Knowles' previous books were good, diverting thrillers, but this one is an exponential leap; a runaway train of a book. Fantastic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well, I Liked It At First Dec 2 2012
By Patricia Gallagher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is about a savvy criminal, and the details of how he manages his life and crimes are fascinating. The book opens up with him throwing Molotov cocktails at police who are trying to break down the door, and I was cracking up.

OK. Then it gets into the also fascinating details of his armed robbery with the woman who is a grifter and his old acqaintance, and how she got him to commit to the crime.

All right, SPOILERS.

Now we get into sickening details, and I mean sickening. The violence and gore was overwhelming to me at the end, and I really wanted to like the protaganist. The final scene, where a young ignorant guy is beaten to a bloody, graphic death in a celebratory fashion, with his brains on the floor, made me not want to read any other books by this author.
