Alex J. Robinson has been honing her craft and refining her art for almost a dozen years now. Having started singing at the tender age of eight, this Sudbury, Ontario native has compiled some impressive credentials and has racked up amazing experiences as she celebrates her 22nd birthday.
In the Canadian Open Country Music Competitions of 1996 & 1997 she placed 4th and 2nd respectively (this at 11 & 12 years old mind you!) and has since taken every opportunity to keep singing. Whether it has been belting out the anthems at the Dome or The Gardens, performing at Bluebird North, singing jingles for Tim Horton's, McDonald's or Ford, or singing demos for SonyBMG (for the Canadian Idol Songwriting Camp), Alex continues to showcase her amazing vocal ability whenever and wherever she can.
And well she should - her range, control and pitch are nothing short of spectacular and her live performances are spellbinding!
Her first single `BREAKIN' ON THE LOVE THING' is currently charting in the TOP 20 at Country Radio, and she is up for a 2008 CANADIAN RADIO MUSIC AWARD. Alex is also featured in the now running ONTARIO TOURISM COMMERCIAL on both TV and radio, singing the song `THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE THIS'.

PROBABLY THE NEXT SHANIA!,

Let me start off by stating the old adage that says "looks can be deceiving" is especially true in this case. When I first saw the cover of this CD I thought it was a new CD from the latest sexy siren of the pop charts but I was right and wrong at the same time; Alex J Robinson is a sexy siren, but she's a new country artist. Hailing from Sudbury she has been performing for more than half her life, and she's only 22! This year she won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, recorded a fantastic tourism promo for Ontario (one of the best I've ever seen for any province) and is currently performing shows in Ontario.
As for this CD, the first single released was "Breakin' On The Love Thing" and it's an up-tempo, fun song reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, Linda Ronstadt and Shaye. You can check out that video and the one for the new single "Me And The Girls" on You Tube, they're both great. These songs bring up an interesting point; this CD helps to further blur the line between what's labeled New Country and what's considered Pop music. The cuts "Not Ready For Love" and "You Don't Gotta Know" could easily fit onto Adult Contemporary and Pop charts and the only thing that gives them away as being 'considered' Country music is the steel guitar and fiddle. That's the case for the majority of the songs on this disc but it's in no way a bad thing as she has crafted a polished, top-notch album that contains some of the best songs I've ever heard from any up and coming Canadian music star and as far as quality, there's really not that much difference from what someone as big as Faith Hill records to what Alex J has recorded here, her songs are that good and her singing is excellent. For the country music 'purist' out there, there are a few songs that veer more towards a truer country sound such as "Don't Waste My Time" and especially "I Don't Wanna Get Over You", both of which deserve to shoot right up to the top of the CMT charts. There's no question that Alex J Robinson is beautiful and extremely photogenic but it's not modeling on display here, it's music and Alex J Robinson is a phenomenal singer and songwriter and deserves whatever level of success she desires. This CD is fantastic. By the way, the CD cover is indeed super-sexy. Did I mention that already?

I saw an brief interview with Alex during some movie previews in the summer, and I was instantly hooked on 'Breaking On The Love Thing' so I bought the CD. What a gem!! This CD cheers me up on the worst of days. I can't help but smile and sing along.
After seeing Alex perform live at the Fergus Truck Show, I got the chance to meet her. She is a wonderful person with nothing but love for all her fans. You can tell she truly enjoys just getting out there and singing her heart out! I hope a new album isn't too far off, but for now I am enjoying everything about 'Never Say Never'.
