5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for the novice and experienced cook alike Aug. 27 1998

Just what new cooks and those of us who need a gentle reminder now and then need. The recipes are simple and easy to follow without being boring, and the techniques section is excellent: easy to use and beautifully presented. If you've ever been disappointed with the results of a recipe this is the book you need: guaranteed to help you cook like a pro.

'The New Cook' simplifies and breaks down the basics to cooking. But what is even more helpful are the basics to what a kitchen should and may have from dry goods to spices to utensils and pans. It keeps it simplified without having to purchase everything. The pictures show excellent examples and there are short, yet to the point statements about the products used and what they do. The few recipes listed are not your basic spaghetti; they are above that yet they are able to be accomplished without burning down the kitchen and leaving your eyebrows in tact.
4.0 out of 5 stars A must have in any kitchen March 15 1998

Great reference guide as well as cookbook. More for the novice or average cook, though those with more culinary expertise will find recipes enjoyable.
