Normally considered a pop-country-rock outfit, "New Day" represents a bit of a departure for The Stampeders. Leaving relatively "hokey" numbers (like Monday Morning Choo Choo, for example) aside, The Stampeders show their versatility and their ability to play straight ahead Rock and Roll on this album. Highlights include "Ramona", a straight ahead rocker, "It's Your Move", another fast-paced tune and the casually paced "Do It Again". Of particular interest are the songs "In the Shadows" and "Somebody Help Me"--two groove-infused songs that are featured as bookends on the Stampeders "Backstage Pass" Live album. A nice change of pace for a group that is, unfortunately, lost in the annals of Canadian Rock history.

Really good album that somehow didn't get the respect it deserves.

Surprisingly good hard rocker from Canada Oct. 21 2001
By Thomas Muckinhaupt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I remember hearing "Wild Eyes" years ago on CKLW out of Detroit. I also remember being shocked that it was by the Stampeders, a country rock band known for their huge hit "Sweet City Woman" This album is more of a hard rocker, with some excellent singing and guitar playing. Highlights are the B.T.O-like "Wild Eyes", the thundering "Ramona" and the hard southern rock of "It's Your Move". Capitol released the album back in 1974, and it was out of print a short time later. Even the mellow tunes are tasteful and well-done. Excellent production makes this a lost semi-classic.
Ah-la-la-la Marigold Feb. 25 2009

For Stampeder fans, and there are still some around if you look hard enough, this album, New Day (1975), marked a watershed era for the trio -- they had an international tour and were rockin' and rollin' (and they had the hit Sweet City Woman (1973) under their belts already). Ramona and It's Your Move are two of the kickers on the CD. The recording quality is quite good.

But, if for no other reason -- even if you have never heard of the Stampeders -- buy this CD for the totally wonderful sing along song called Marigold -- this song alone is worth the cost of the disc. You'll be humming and singing along in no time.
