5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the New Teen Titans archives, Aug 22 2010

This review is from: New Teen Titans Archives Vol. 4 (Hardcover)
I loved this collection of early 1980's Teen Titans, every story in the book is quite compelling. The thoughtful subplots in each issue make the characters feel more real not just cardboard cut out heroes sent to dispatch the villain of the month.Robin and Starfire's budding romantic relationship is developed nicely.Robin,Starfire,Raven, and Cyborg are showcased in these issues.Aqua Lad shows up too for fans of the underdog water prince.Marv Wolfman and George Perez did some of their best work with the Titans here as well as in Terra Incognito and the Judas Contract sets that follow this one.

this was the last of the best era of the new teen titans. after the runaways storyline the plots just took to long to enjoy. the art was great and the stories would have been better if they were told in 2-3 issues instead of the 4-5 the titans are however my favorite book except the bronze age justice league.

5.0 out of 5 stars DC at its best!, Dec 14 2008

This review is from: New Teen Titans Archives Vol. 4 (Hardcover)
Looking for the best 1980s works DC has to offer of? This is it. The fame and praise of the New Teen Titans series is well-documented already, but I can say that this volumne gets into some of the best parts of the series. It introduced some great space adventures into what was finally becoming a more consistent and integrated universe of aliens and storylines in the DC universe. Although considered a bit campy or outdated now, many of the storis about cults and runaways were very topical and demonstrated a level of depth in writing rarely seen at that point in DC (save for the fabled Green Lantern/Green Arrow run writen a decade earlier). And best of all - the art is just breathtaking. The battle scenes show George Perez really coming into his own in terms of the details and multi-layered dynamics of style.

Although the books covered in this volumne are not as old or rare compared to most other DC Archives, the quality of the work just sweeps you away.
