Irresistible and Inspiring Recipes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nigella Bites (Hardcover)
"Nigella Bites" is the ultimate in cookbooks - the pictures alone are tempting enough to make you want to try the recipes. Although far from health conscious, the recipes use everyday ingredients that can be adapted to fit all manner of tastes and lifestyles. I bought the book ... before it was released here and I actually enjoy converting the recipes from metric; it makes me feel a part of the very English mystique that seems to surround Nigella and her view of food. The recipes come across more like guidelines than direct orders so don't be daunted by the degree to which recipes call for "full fat" this or that. There are some things that just cannot be substituted in certain situations, but I tweek many of the recipes to fit my low-fat way of cooking and the results have been spectacular! Besides, a full fat, full calorie treat is an occassional necessity and these are the recipes that one should turn to in those cases. Nigella's free-spirit and love of food comes through the book's pages and will inspire all who read it to get in there and start cooking!

Nigella fan,
This review is from: Nigella Bites (Hardcover)
I love Nigella's writing and I read her cookbooks like novels. She is witty, entertaining and makes me laugh out loud. I often share a passage with my husband as we are curled up on the sofa reading and we both have a good chuckle. Her honesty and humour are refreshing. I recommend any of her books.

Rather Disappointing,
By Let Them Eat Cakes "Me" (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nigella Bites (Hardcover)
I bought "Nigella Bites" since I'd enjoyed "How To Eat" and "How To Be A Domestic Goddess" and absolutely loved them. I thought that this book would be just as good.Sadly, I found "Nigella Bites" too similar in content, same jokes, same opinions, same old - same old. I guessed that maybe Nigella had said it all already and was just trying to push out another book. Truthfully, I love Nigella Lawson's style of writing, I relate to her attitude in the kitchen, her thoughts and her descriptions of the things she loves...I can't bare to watch her on TV. The book "Nigella Bites" is directly related to her TV series, I couldn't bring myself to sit through hours of watching her trailing through her home and entertaining her guests, to me its irrelevant. I wouldn't recommend this book, though would strongly recommend the two others above (I didn't read "Forever Summer" since the reviews were not good either). I am looking forward to the new release in November 2004 of "Feast" and am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as exciting as her other books.
