BEAUTIFUL!!!,
This review is from: Night and Day (Audio CD)
Roland Dyens is a pure genius. Not only does he play and compose classical, Latin American and French music, he also is a master in the jazz genre. His arrangements are beyond anyone could imagine and he turns simple songs like "Over the Rainbow" into virtuoso magical creations. I love the percussion he used in the background on some of the pieces, but wish he had used more. Maybe adding a snare drum and bass? When he plays "Back to Tunisia", he uses his hands and fingers against the body of the guitar, which gives it an "African jungle" quality. Please record more jazz Maestro Dyens! Bravo!

These are some of the best solo arrangements I've ever heard. Dyens blends tasteful melody, rhythmic complexity and subtlety, and moments of reckless dissonance into these brilliant arrangements. Dyens comes from a Classical and Latin background, and brings a unique personality to these jazz standards. He is simply an amazing player, as there are times when I'm not sure that what he does is even possible. A great album which appeals to listeners of classical, jazz, Latin, or simply fans of great guitar music.
