Winston is a voracious musical explorer, and the Doors are among several musical tributes Winston has rolling around in his head. He's already paid homage to pianist Vince Guaraldi with Linus and Lucy. Winston's take on the acid-rock shamans is sometimes magical, sometimes regretful. It's no secret that George isn't a great technician, and you can hear the flaws whenever he remains true to the melody, especially replicating Robbie Krieger's guitar lines. But some songs are just perfect for Winston, notably "Crystal Ship," which he expands into a gorgeous meditation. Winston mixes the hits, including "Light My Fire," with some eccentric personal choices like "Spanish Caravan" and "My Wild Love." I own all of George Winston's CD's. I love the Doors. This just isn't quite a fit. George is the master technician playing material that demands an edgy, raw performance from the gut. Winston fans will probably like this, Doors fans probably not. George is just a little too straight to do this material justice.

I can't stop playing this CD. George Winston has honored the Doors with his superb piano playing. Yeah I know that a CD like this brings the intellectual snobs and critics out of the woodwork. Don't believe them!The truth is Winston's playing is immaculate.His renditions of Riders on the Storm and Love Me Two Times will keep playing in your head. This is the best CD that I have purchased in ages.

The Doors??? no, no, no!,

I like not all but most of Geoege Winstons music. So I tried this CD. I just can't get past the overall music.I never liked the doors music at all! Some folks love the doors nothing more than "rambling on to me" and as good as GW pulls this off "100% better than the original" I still do not like the overall music. I would give 5 stars for GW's interpretation and "0" for the overall Doors music.
